  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Good video showing some of the G80 sport a little closer on the outside (vid is in korean) but my main question is around 4:45 the interior they show on the G80 is quite different then ones offered here in the U.S

Any idea if they plan on releasing this version at all, really digging the colors, plus different shifter knob, rear has dual tv screens like the G90 along w/ the controller knob.

The Korean (KDM) Genesis has always had more options than are available on the USA version, going back to the 2009 model (2008 in Korea). The equivalent KDM versions have been more expensive than the USA versions (although the Korean wan, like most currencies, has fallen quite a bit against the dollar in recent years).

The USA market is much more price competitive than the Korean auto market, so certain things were left out. In Korea (like Japan), it is a matter of national pride to buy a domestic made car, so they can get away with charging higher prices. They even have Genesis sedan police cars in Korea.

well I guess that makes sense, thanks for the info

^ Not just national pride, but the Genesis and the Equus hold a different position in the marketplace in Korea than it does in the US.

For instance, Prada and Hermes partnered up with Hyundai for special edition models of the Genesis and Equus, respectively, in Korea, something they never would have done for the US market (no fear of sullying their image in Korea).

Wow... too bad this car isn't available in the US. I think it would sell quite well... and might actually outpace the model we do have. Between the exterior styling, lighting package, wheels, different center console and rear entertainment - it is a nice step up. Really not sure what they are thinking by not offering this a package here in the US.

+ 1 - would have also avoided the weirdness/confusion of the G80 being launched as pretty much a rebadged 2016 Hyundai Genesis...

They are thinking that the increase in price required of having all those extra features would make the Genesis too close in price to BMW, MB, etc.

The Korean market is completely different than in the USA, as people in Korea can face extreme pressure to buy a domestic made car (although not as bad as it once was). That allows Hyundai to not worry about being price competitive with other cars (at least compared to the USA market).

Also, they are thinking that if the USA Genesis had all those features, no one would buy a G90.

Front and rear exterior KDM G80 styling updates should not have cost a dime (could have used current headlights if LEDs were too expensive).

Agreed. Good points and good info as usual.
