  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello, this is about the feature that keeps the vehicle centered in the lane, I forgot what's it's called but it's not the other one that only adjusts when the car goes over the lane line.

Anyway, I use this feature a lot especially on the highway combined with CC, I like it a lot and I feel like it does a great job at detecting the lane even in harsh conditions.

The thing that really bothers me is that I feel like many times it gets way too close to the lane line, it never goes beyond the line but close enough that the vehicle next to me moves over a bit because it looks like I was going to go over the lane line. It does this randomly but I notice it the most when I'm trying to control the steering wheel, for example I'm passing someone and usually I move my car further to the left part of the lane just to be sure, when I do that the vehicle tries to adjust by going to the opposite direction very close to the lane line, it's very frustrating because usually when i do that it's because the car next to me is already close to my lane line, so I always get concerned that the lane assist will make me hit the car next to me.

I always watch the lane lines in my mirror to see how close the car gets, and like I said it never crossed the line but gets uncomfortably close. Maybe I'm just too paranoid? IDK. What do you guys think?

I have noticed that the feature does come closer to the lines than I would under normal conditions. With other cars around me I am less comfortable using the feature. It should create less anxiety for me and not more. I use it only when on open highway with limited traffic. City driving is for full driver control.

I only use this feature while on the highway which is not that often. But when I’ve used it, I’ve been happy with how centered my G70 stays. Granted I cannot take my hand off the wheel but for short durations of like 30sec maybe a minute before the car starts beeping and getting pissed at me. Lane departure/centering is a great feature for relaxing somewhat while on the highway and keeping my thumb on the wheel to make small corrections and keep the car happy.

Actually, just today I was reading a Consumer Report review of the GV70 (not the G70) and one of their comments was to the effect that the lane keeping assist (LKA) was better than that in most cars because it went right to the edge of the line before correcting. The advantage was that there was less interference with the driver. So it may be an intentional feature about which different drivers may have different opinions.

This makes sense. It's purpose is to keep you from leaving the lane, not self driving. I would not want constant interference with an over sensitive LKA

LFA’s “purpose” is to keep the car centered in the lane.

LKA’s purpose” is to keep you from leaving the lane.

Interesting . I just got the car and have limited experience with both so far. I have read articles and seen videos, some of which describe it as the opposite. I found that LFA, used on the hwy tended to keep the car centred, while LKA around town does not.

Be sure to post again after you know more. You are not the first brand new owner to be totally confused.

This is a good description of the two features which is part of an overview of various vehicles that include them. The first would be LKA and the second, LFA/HDA. This is the opposite of your definition. And yes, it's confusing.
Intermittent lane keeping intervenes when the vehicle approaches or crosses a lane marker or road edge. This is often described as a safety feature. The system may be available only above a certain speed, making it hard to know when this feature is available. CR data shows that owners tend not to like these intermittent systems, partly due to unwanted intervention. Due to the unclear descriptions by the manufacturers, many drivers expect these systems to follow the lane rather than intervening only when straying out of the lane. Used this way, drivers report dissatisfaction with a system that seems to bounce back and forth in the lane like a ping-pong ball.

Sustained lane keeping continuously assists to keep the car at or near the center of the lane. These systems are often marketed as making driving less stressful. When combined with adaptive cruise control, these systems automate much of the driving task, but the driver still needs to monitor the roadway and be ready to intervene. Our surveys show that consumers tend to like the convenience of the sustained systems.

Yes, I fixed my blooper. I sit corrected.

Your post #5 confused me, as did your post #7 since LKA is not intended to keep the vehicle centered in the lane around the town, or highway.

Also, keep in mind that Hyundai/Genesis have been improving these features in recent years. My ‘19 Santa Fe has only LKA, not LFA, and the LKA ping- pongs uselessly. My ‘22 Tucson has both features. I have no use whatsoever for LKA in any vehicle.

Agree on LKA. I'll be back into the Settings to disable it. The LFA/HDA was quite impressive generally, during my 2 hour hwy drive home after picking up the car.
