  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Okay. I need someone else to test and prove me wrong...

on a recent trip with about 80 mostly straight hwy miles, I put the lane keep assist on with cruise control. Normally when engaged it will beep if your hands are off the wheel after so many seconds (not sure how many). However I noticed if I was in cruise control, but had not engaged the lane keep assist button, if I have both hands off the wheel and pressed the button, the sensors in the steering wheel did not have an input and the warning chime to put hands on wheel never activates. Thinking it may be a software oversight? Anyone else discover this? Thx!

Not an oversight, but a design feature.
Your hands were off the wheel and you pressed the button. That sounds right. You are not supposed to drive hands free. Just as when you get the beep, it will shut off the LKAS if you do not put a hand back on the wheel.

Did you put your hands back on the wheel and try it again? Then it should engage.
• If you continue to drive with
your hands off the steering
wheel, the LKAS will stop controlling
the steering wheel
after the hands off alarm.
After then, if you drive with
your hands on the steering
wheel, the control will be activated
again.

I find its variable how often the lane keep assist beeps at you. If the road is curvy it thinks you're being stupid, I find it beeps much sooner. On a straight road where minimal assist in needed, I've found it can actually go quite a while before beeping.

Seems inconsistent with steering too. Last week I was on a road for about 20 miles. It is mostly straight but there were gentle curves. I played with it a bit and some curves were perfect. Others, while it took me around, the left tire was right on the solid yellow line. With no traffic, that would be ok, but if another car was doing the same thing in the opposite directions, well, it certainly would make a mess and wake you up.

Other places there were lines but a bit faded and it would allow me to drift right off the road if I did not correct. Yet in the past on a partly snow covered and salted road it did an excellent job. One thing I'm certain about, I'd never trust if for hands free driving.

Hard to say what ideal conditions are. Longest I have gone handsfree is 6.5km. And second best is a bit over 4km. I still can't replicate those days!

Good updates. It appears from the comments that the “hand-on” reminder alert can vary time/distance. On my wife’s Volvo there is no variability.

On the flip side, I've been on very straight roads where I've had to give so little steering input that it beeped at me even though my hand was already on the wheel.

To me, the Lane Assist is a little intrusive for around town driving. I was able to remove my hands from the wheel and it magically did it's thing which was weird but cool. However I found the general feel of the steering was to "harsh" (in sport mode) but once disabled, overall steering feel improved dramatically. It's an interesting feature but something for me that will be used only on longer highway trips.

@addysdaddy Try the middle setting. One setting is just a beep and one setting is pretty harsh, IMO. So I pulled a Goldilocks...

Agree. I have it on the more intense setting and leave it off when driving around normally and only turn it on for longer trips. It squirms a bit in your hands on the highway which is annoying during short trips, but I like the extra measure of reassurance in long trips when fatigue might become a concern.

Is there a sensor in the steering wheel to sense if your hands are touching the wheel or is it based on your turning the wheel? I have noticed on straight roads with or without cruise control on, I get the alarm. I usually nudge the wheel for it to silence.

Followed the above suggestions and reset sensitivity to medium. Keep the system turned off unless going onto the highway. Seems like a good compromise all the way around. BTW, I want to say that I'm loving my G70 which has done nothing but surprised to the upside. Glad I went with Genesis over the Audi A3 Prem+ with Technology. And I'm a huge Audi fan boy. One happy camper here.

Senses movement of the wheel. Does not take much.
I've tried gloves, jacket sleeves, one finger. As long as the wheel moves, no alarm, barriers to touch seem to make no difference.
