  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The "middle" of my rear seat is cracking like crazy. It just started. I have a 2015 3.8 AWD Ultimate with 15k miles. This is crazy. Has anyone else experienced this? I will try to get pictures shortly

Definitely does not look like normal wear, should be a warranty issue. I have the same miles as you and all my seats look perfect.

Also, I'm pretty sure the middle section is vinyl and only the actual seating surfaces are leather. It is possible the vinyl section was from a bad batch somehow in your car or it was exposed to harsh chemicals. See what the dealer says.

Crap, my seats in 14 years old bimmer 540i looked better than this :(

What have you been using to clean the seats?

Something isn't right; that looks like a very old car. I have 40K on my car and my front seats still look brand new (love that Lexol which I use when they get even a little bit shiny).

i just bought the car used from an Audi dealer about a month ago. I haven't used anything on the seats yet. i have had the center console down since i have owned it as the kids enjoy the heated rear seats. we got home from Thanksgiving weekend and was cleaning the car out and my son pointed this out to me. I hope it is covered under warranty. I am going to run over to the Hyundai dealership today at lunch and have them take a look at it.

Any thoughts on what caused this? Would a soda beverage be caustic enough, if left on long enough?

I had a Toyota Solara that had the same problem..Replaced under warranty twice. The third time they refused to honor the warranty ( 3 times all lasted under 3000 miles) I had to take them to arbitration
and they lost.... This was one of many other problems that the so called quality Toyota had......
Sold the Solara in 2004 and Purchased My first Hyundai XG350. Altogether since 2004 I have purchased
several Hyundai product for myself and wife. Not one of those cars had any warranty work on them.
The Genesis has been perfect...........

Smoking gun. Either the previous owner or the used car dealer used chemicals that were too harsh. Probably the used car dealer.

They may cover it under warranty, but in the last 7+ years on this forum, I don't recall hearing about that problem on a Genesis.

are you a heavy individual? my 09 seats has aged pretty damn good. I'm 180lb

The OP has the wear on the "middle" of the rear seating area, which is only used if there are 3 passengers in the back seat. OP purchased the car used. There is no telling what happened, as it could be from something hauled in the back seat that scrapped finish off, or the use of some inappropriate cleaning solution with aggressive scrubbing.

The Hyundai regional rep is supposed to be at my dealership today or Wednesday and I am to take my car when he is there for him to look at and approve (or not approve) replacement. I will keep you updated.
