Second Generation LED Fog lights as DRLs

I purchased a set of KDM LED Fogs for my 2015 Genesis. I had them installed by Precision Sound in Chino Hills, CA. They were able to wire them any way I liked, so I had them wire them so that they come on whenever the engine is on. This allows them to function as DRLs. I decided to turn the amber DRLs off with the control stock in the cabin. The amber lights still continue to function as the turn signal lights. Only downside to this setup is that I lose the auto on/off function on the headlamps so I have to remember to turn them on manually. But this is a very small price to pay and I'm very happy with the final results.

On a side note, while I was at Precision Sound, they installed blue LED interior ambient lighting strips underneath the dashboard and underneath the front seat frames. This casts a cool blue glow onto the front and rear footwell areas, but you do not see the LEDs directly. This gives the interior a sort of "factory OEM" look. These LEDs come on and stay on whenever the engine is running, but the shop installed a hidden toggle switch which allows me to turn them on and off whenever I choose. So far, I've left them on, as they don't use much energy and they're not too noticeable during the daytime. I'm very pleased with the look.

While I included the DRL type option when I installed my foglights which also has the stock H/L switch stalk option, I'm somewhat surprised that a business would install and wire up a light system that appears to be covered under CA vehicle code 23255 (a) and seems at least in the way I read the code is in violation of section (b) where such lights must only be on when the headlights are on which states:

24255. (a) A vehicle may be equipped with a system to supplement
the driver's visibility of the roadway to the front or rear of the
vehicle during darkness. This system may incorporate an illuminating
device that emits radiation predominantly in the infrared region of
the electromagnetic spectrum and a display monitor to provide an
image visible to the driver of the vehicle. The system, or any
portion of it, shall not obstruct the vision of the driver, and shall
not emit any glaring light visible in any direction or to any
person. The illuminating device may be mounted inside the vehicle, if
it is constructed and mounted so as to prevent any direct or
reflected light, other than a monitorial indicator emitted from the
device, from being visible to the driver.

(b) The system shall be operated only with the headlamps lighted.
An illuminating device for the system shall be interlocked with the
headlamp switch so that it is operable only when the headlamps are
lighted.

(c) (1) No part of the illuminating device may be physically or
optically combined with any other required or permitted lighting
device.
(2) The illuminating device may be installed within a housing
containing other required or permitted lighting devices, if the
function of the other devices is not impaired thereby.

While I can't envision where this would ever be an issue and might seem mundane it is still there and must have been some reason for putting it in the vehicle code.

I know here in Va where we have annual vehicle inspection requirements we have a requirement specifically prohibiting the use of Fog lights as DRLs and I assume this is because of the forward projection and actual road illumination capability of Fog Lights. This Va requirement is basically the same as the above quoted Ca vehicle code.

BTW some time ago I also installed the blue floor lighting option with an additional much brighter white light option as detailed in the following thread with pictures Floor Light LED Clips
