  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Too, too many trips back to the stealership. Intermittents are a plague with this car.

I live in Florida and have downloaded the approrpriate forms from the Attorny General and will proceed with the required notifications via registered mail.

Damned shame, as I like driving this car ... wonderul handling, acceleration, comfort. Why can't they, Hyundai, make the electronics work?

I used the term "stealership" as they grossly misreprented several key issues. The loaner provided for this last repair attempt, had crank-up windows. How quaint! I was "Promised" a loaner car of equal value and comfort. As you contintue to demand service, they cleverly use methods to deny it.

I am not an expert on Lemon Laws, but from what I read it is hard to get it invoked for something like problems with the audio system or other related electronics.

I just went thru a lemon law issue with my GM. For a buy back under the lemon law, they look for safety related issues and driveability issue. If you are continully having the same issue with the electrical and they can't fix it, you may be able to use the lemon law. You'll have to dig into it more.

One thing I've noticed with dealerships, mind you they were GM, is that you have to really look to find one with a true mechanic, not a computer button pusher.

Have you tried a different dealer/service shop? Have you contacted Hyundai customer serice to see if they can help?

The other issue you may run into is that it has to be the same problem that they can not fix.

If the problem is intermittent and they could not reproduce it, you may have an issue.

Hyundai does not consider a complaint from a owner a problem unless they see it. If they did not see the problem it probably was never entered into the system as a problem.

If I am not mistaken, the lemon law does not apply to issues you think you have that the dealer can not reproduce. Otherwise, people would say they have all these problems just to get a new car or their money back. The problem must be able to be reproduce and then recorded on the service system to apply.

I am assuming that when OP complains about electirical problems, he is only talking about the audio, GPS, and entertainments systems, and not any critical electrical systems that are necessary to operate the car. If that is the case, it may be harder to use the lemon law on thiose kind of problems.

Hyundai dealers have never done anything other than replace the entire unit(s) when there are problems with the audio system. The audio systems are not even made by Hyundai, so not even the factory knows much about them.

Each state has their own lemon laws, but you are basically correct. Most of the lemon law rules kick in based on how many days the car is in the shop for repairs and you cannot use the car (over a set timeframe). If the dealer does not accept the car into the shop for repairs, pretty hard to claim the lemon law; however, other legal remedies may be available (such as simple breach of contract for failure to abide by the warranty).

In California, you can have your car repurchased under the Lemon Law for any defect (audio, electrical or otherwise) that substantially impairs the car if they failed to repair it after a reasonable number of opportunities.

Thanks for your feedbak.

In my case, I would settle for fixing the critical issue: the driver's seat will not move back. We are a one car family and I am over sized, compared to my spouse. When the driver's seat will not move backi I am f***ed ... no kidding ... it will not move back! She can drive and I cannot! The seat will always move forward. (South Koreans hate tall Americans?)

Could be a control switch or a limit swhitch, operating intermittently. Also, the freakin computer crap might be also involved. Anyway, Hundai has no legiitamete excuses for not not fixing this.

Lemon Law, Lemon Law please save me from the latest evil empire from the Pacific rim! I will never watch Allen Alda MASH reruns again.

Have you tried a reset procedure like the one used for the steering wheel?
I have also used similar procedure for the sunroof on my Mercedes. I seems that limit switches all reset in a similar way. Push

Push the seat switch down and hold for 10 seconds then push it up and hold for 10 seconds, then forward and hold for 10 seconds and last push it to the rear and hold for 10 seconds.

That kind of electronic problem would qualify under lemon law.

Sorry but that is incorrect. I am in Calif and just went thru this. My stereo had problems several times and was replaced twice. But it did not constitue a lemon law buy back as that is a convience item. It must be a safety or driveability issue. Or a major issue that they cannot repair after several visits to the dealership. Also it must all be documented.

Best course is to find a good local lemon law lawyer and see what they say. They know the laws and usually have a working relationship with the manufactures. In my case, the lawyer's fees were paid by GM. GM paid off the loan. They also paid me all monies that I had paid on the loan excluding the GAP insurance and extended warrenty, which I cancled. They got a deduction for mileage up to the first incident that caused the car to be a lemon. The lawyer got 10% of the actual cash that GM paid to me, about 1200 bucks. In total, it cost me $200 a month to drive the car for 3 years.

The seat issue may be that it is stuck at a limit and not necessarily a limit switch. I had a similar problem with my '04 Chevy truck. I had to partialy disassemble teh seat and manually turn the shaft that lifts the seat to get it unstuck. After that, it works fine. Seems it was forced up into the limit at one time and got stuck there.

Good luck.
