If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I contacted a lemon law attorney today regarding the wind noise from my driver’s window. I had my car in for service twice for a total of seventeen days and when I returned for the third time they refused to admit my car. They tried to convince me that the wind noise was characteristic of the 2011 Genesis. They gave me the number for Hyundai consumer assistance which I called, they in turn contacted the dealership that serviced my car who told them they replaced the window and door seals but the noise was still there. Hyundai consumer assistance then said that he would set up a meeting for me with the Hyundai regional representative, to date I have not heard back.

To make a long story short, Hyundai contacted me today and told me that they wish they had better news but they concluded that wind noise from the driver’s window is characteristic of the 2011 Genesis.

Sorry to hear about that.

Check the lemon laws for your state (you're probably way ahead of me) and get all your documentation in order. They maybe waiting to see what you'll do next-maybe hoping you'll live with it rather then going through the process. Perhaps when they see you intend to really lemon law the car, they'll come back to the table.

It's my feeling that they don't really want a car declared a lemon because it must be reported to somebody or some agency. My only hesitation is your complaint may be construed as subjective.

Your name seems familiar, did you own a Genny before the 2011?

This is my first Genesis.

SOUND SYSTEM
Over 100 sound dampening innovations make the Genesis interior among the quietest you may have experienced. Acoustic window lamination cuts exterior noise. Whisper valves muffle the muffler. Reshaped links in the steel timing chain mean a quieter engine. An underbody panel minimizes the sound of wind rushing under the car and reduces road noise.
If it gets too quiet, power on the available ultra-premium, 17-speaker, 528-watt Lexicon® 7.1 Discrete surround-sound system and savor the most sophisticated audio system in the Genesis’ class.

I am ready to play if they want to.

When I bought my first Genny, there is some sort of law in Georgia saying you must go to arbitration. But that's Georgia.

Hyundai traded my first Genny for a second identical one when we threatened to lemon law. I owned the car a month, but they had it three weeks of that month and I refused to take it back (this was after multiple returns of the car to me and the radio/DIS/phone/nav malfunction would happen again.

What I had going for me, is the Genesis was a new launch, and I don't think they wanted it declared a lemon because it would then have to be reported (in some sort of way-sorry for my ignorance). In my case, the dealership seemed to be on my side. I think that helped a lot.

Previous to the Genesis, I had owned multiple Hondas (seven) and we were car shopping and I told my husband about the Genesis and he liked it. I was hesitant but he was gung ho. When the problems happened, he felt bad and said we'll go get a Honda. He asked what do you want to do, and I said I want the Genesis, but working like it should. I really liked the Genesis better.

In my case, it was resolved to my satisfaction. I hope your situation turns out well. It's a shame it has come to this. I would bet they come back asking you to take it to another dealership and let them attempt a repair.

Good Luck, NOLa

have you road tested several others in the same manner as yours to replicate (or disprove) the "wind noise"?? that's what i had to do when i had my car less than 24hours and the vibration in the driveline was proven to be "JUST" in my 3.8 (which they later upgraded me to the 4.6 for free).

coming from my Yukon Denali this car is like a bank vault in terms of quiet on the hwy. whisper at 80+mph and the backseat passenger can hear it.

i've gone 130mph in this one already and even at that speed i would say it was equivalent to the Denali at 80mph lol.

Not yet but I am working on a forensic recording of the noise which I will compare to other Genesis models so I can prove my claim.

A Genesis is generally very quiet and should not have a wind leak noise. Try to find the source of the noise. For example, close the door and put the window all the way up. Then barely lower the window. See if the noise changes. Then put the window all the way up and again see whether the noise changes. Look to see whether any of the weatherstripping removed itself from the window frame. Another hint is have someone sit in the left rear seat while you are driving the car. Have the passenger press against the outside part of the fully closed driver's window. This may make a tighter seal and assist the dealer in determining the cause of the wind leak.

I had two former cars with a wind problem. One car's problem was solved with changing the window regulator. The defective regulator inhibited the window from properly sealing. The other car could not be fixed. According to the dealer, a 2000 Vette was one half inch longer on the left side of the car's frame than the right side. After owning the car for about a month, General Motors cancelled the sale and rescinded all of the financing. The dealer was very helpful in supplying photos to the plant showing the problem with the frame.

Good luck.

platgen that's wild about the vette lol.. i hope you get in a few more genesis' to make the comparison very interested in the results. you didn't answer my question though. have you driven other's and found them to be devoid of this problem? or are they similar

To specifically respond to the window noises issue, my 2010 Genesis does not have any. I do not recall any in the approximately two other cars Genesis that I test drove.

It sounds to me that you spoke to someone who did not know what they were talking about as wind noise at the passenger window is not a characteristic of the 2010 Genesis and I doubt that it is a characteristic of the 2011.
Your problem may be coming from the rain channel that runs along the edge of the roof. On cars that have these channels, they have been known to generate wind noise at ear level of both driver and passenger windows, the problem is caused by the channel not being seated properly.
Because I bailed out of a 2007 LS460 that had wind noise issues I throughly checked out my Genesis to make sure it did not have the same issues and after 6,500 miles and 1 year of ownership I have had no wind noise issues and feel the car is just as quiet as the LS460. I know how annoying this problem can be. I hope they get you taken care of.

Have them to check the roof molding on the drivers side to make sure it is seated correctly and fully secured, latched in all the way. If that molding misses latching into one clip you can get the noise that you are hearing.

I will mention this but when the window goes down slightly the noise is less so I am pretty sure it is the seal. I am hoping this thread is noticed by Hyundai but if not I agreed to have an attorney in CT represent me. I'll keep you posted on how this turns out.

In that lowering the window slightly reduces the noise you are probably correct about the seal. If you have a chance look up LS460 wind noise fix. I think you will find the discussions very interesting.

Good Luck................
