  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Lexicon(R), the world leader in digital audio, has partnered with Hyundai to create the ultimate listening experience for drivers of the all-new 2009 Hyundai Genesis sport sedan. Hyundai's new flagship will debut with the Lexicon Discrete Surround Audio System at the North American International Auto Show on January 13.

The Hyundai Genesis will match V8 power and rear-wheel-drive performance with 528-watts and 17 speakers of state-of-the-art audio technology. The Lexicon Discrete Surround Audio System produces an acoustic experience that draws the listener deep into the performance with superior harmonic richness and higher quality bass. The sound is spacious and enveloping with superior dynamic range and the ability to deliver the subtle details of any recording.

"The new Lexicon Discrete Surround Audio System clearly demonstrates how uncompromising sound integrity results in a stunning and extraordinary listening experience for Genesis drivers," said Joe Pullin, Harman/Becker Automotive Systems vice president, Global Marketing. "It's intelligently designed, technologically advanced and sonically spectacular. Lexicon's years of making products which relay the highest possible fidelity ensure an unbroken chain between the artist and listener."

Featuring a wide array of audio innovations, the Lexicon Discrete Surround Audio System contains 7.1 channels of sound with a total output of 528 watts through 17 transducers (speakers). Two 3-way transducer systems provide the best-possible timbre balance, while also improving the clarity of audio playback. Five 2-way transducer systems yield the same sonic signature across all channels for optimum consistency in tone.

I see Logic 7 mentioned here.. Does this Logic 7 have anything to do with the system in the BMWs? They're also called Logic 7...

Can't speak for the new ones, but in trying to find this info I found a press release about Lexicon doing an 'exclusive' deal with BMW for the Logic 7 system. I was really ticked, then noticed the date was 2001, it was a 7 year old system. I believe the system described here is really exclusive to Genesis and Rolls, for a short time. Anyone in sales knows no one gets an exclusive, and if they do it's not for long. For example, Ford has a one year exclusive on the Microsoft SYNC system. Hyundai already has a deal signed with Microsoft to put SYNC in their vehicles the day the Ford exclusive expires.

The things that set this Tech Pak version apart are the fiber optics, and DVD support. Huge, if you've ever played a music DVD on a large home system.

DVD Video?... does it actually display on the NAV screen??

DVD Video?... does it actually display on the NAV screen??

Haven't seen it, but that's what I have been led to believe. The two remaining questions I have are:

1. Is the video only visible while in park, and
2. When you play a music DVD will the audio still work, while the video doesn't.

I doubt the video will play while in drive. However, more often than not, you can have the system modified (aftermarket) to play while in drive... Not that I recommend it!

There was a Korean car show video on YouTube that showed a Genesis display playing what looked like a TV show. Will have to wait and see if the Tech package plays DVD Video. I have been in a BMW 7-Series where the display plays movies in park so I can only hope the Genesis will do the same!

2. When you play a music DVD will the audio still work, while the video doesn't.

In reading the Driver Information System manual, I found the answers to my own questions:

1. There is, in fact, a lockout so that DVD video is only viewable while in PARK.

2. The good news is that the lockout only applies to the video input channel, not the audio channel. So yes, you can LISTEN to a music DVD while motoring down the road. Glad they got that right.

It's only a matter of time before the aftermarket puts an end to that. Honestly, I never have a reason (or a want/need) to watch television while I'm driving. :p

Actually the Tech package does play DVD audio and video on the DVD video screen, but only while the vehicle is in the "parked" position. I am able to verify this since I was just at the test track in Landover, Maryland, 7/27/08, where I got the opportunity to experience the Genesis on a makeshift track, up against two other vehicles that honestly did not stand up to the test as well; these vehicles were the Mercedes Benz E550, at $68k, and the Cadillac StS, at 48k. The Genesis proved itself by outweighing the other contenders in most areas. I actually drove (by choice), the V-6, although I could have driven the v-8. They were all there for the choosing.

The Lexicon system in the technology package blew me away with the high standard of fidelity. The representative then input a DVD jazz disc, and I could not believe the realism that I was experiencing with the music that was being dispensed through the system. I presently am leasing a BMW 525i that I am 100% convinced I will be trading in for the Genesis at the end of this year. I was more impressed overall, then I though I would be, and so were allot of others that were there to experience the capabilities of the Genesis.
