  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The CD player in my 4.6 Lexicon system will not read the names of some store-bought CD or the song titles. Some read just fine. Ex: The CD title and all the songs from Michael Buble's new CD, "Crazy Love" read just fine. However, James Taylor's One Man Band, will not. Anyone have any ideas why this system will only read certain CD data? Again, these are store-bought CDs, not self-created CDs from iTunes.

Thanks fore your help.

My system is the same. Some CD's no problem, others track number and length is all I get. I'm not sure if this is a Lexicon problem or something to do with the encoding on the CD's. My Home system is exactly the same.

Nope 2010 V-6 with Tech will not read most of my store bought CD. Lexicon is a really POS. I only bought the Tech package to get the HID lights, but now found aftermarket vendors for HID. I could have saved $$$ but not getting this package.

I've had no issues with the system not reading CD's whether they are burned CD's or purchased from a store, although I don't really use the system for CD's since I use the USB port with stored music. I'll take advantage of the hard drive on the vehicle.

You spent a lot of money just to have HID's:o You could have bought a set for under $100 and installed them in a short time. Sounds like you could have saved money by doing a little research. HID kits have been available to the public for many years.

Most all CD's that are store bought do not come readable. I have maybe 3 cds that are and the rest are not. Every single burned CD I've made is readable.

So you call the Lexicon system crap because music distributors didn't encode the cds text to be read on conventional systems?

Wow, you're the first one I heard say the "Lexicon is a really POS".
Lexicon was the main reason I got the tech package.
I guess you're not into audio systems.

Mine also doesn't read titles, but I tend to use other criteria to determine whether an audio system is a POS. I'm pleased with the sound quality and versatility of the Lexicon.

This issue is strictly related to how the CD was encoded. Most CD's do not have the text/artist information in a format needed by modern cd drives. When you burn a CD, it often corrects this. I have very few "store bought" CDs that display information other than track number and time. If I want more, I will burn a copy.

I do not think that this would be a reason to consder any system a POS though. Keep your eyes on the road and turn it up...

I found that when you perform the balance adjustment (in the non-Tech anyway), the screen says POS (for "position"). Maybe that's what newownerinorange means? :D

I have 5 CD's in the changer right now (all classical music from Phillips, Sony lable) and all 5 are blank. They are original store bought recent CDs. They read fine on my IS 250. Lexicon iPod integration is primitive on the 17 speaker system and actually better on the 14 speaker system, but I wanted factory HID. The system is very, very slow as multiple users have noted. Also did you notice that every thing goes back to the beginning if you switch to Navi and switch back? I understand that the same song is playing but all the information about the album is lost. What system does not have random play? Has anyone tried to search for a song on USB or iPod? It takes forever to scroll alphabetically. How about an option to jump alphabetically to the first letter? Multiple users have also noted weak bass on the system. My point is that Lexicon is o.k., but not high end in the caliber of Mark Levinson or even Harmon the Mercedes. On the other hand, we're talking about a car that's half or more off of these brands so in the end you get what you paid for.

Those CDs display their name/title correctly on the IS250 and it doesn't on the Lexicon? Hmm, weird. As most others stated, I thought it was CD-dependent, not the sound system.

Regarding the iPod integration, which system are you comparing to?
I have yet to see a factory solution better than the Lexicon.
Not saying the Lexicon is better than others, but meaning that all aftermarket iPod integration system pretty much sucks.

If you think the Lexicon system is "o.k", I think you're not fully appreciating the system.
Have you listened to DVD-A formats at all?
I admit that the bass might sound a little weak with mp3 formats, but if you have tried out DVD discs and still think the bass is weak, you either have a defective system or you're more into booming, SPL systems.

In the Genesis, the DIS will display CD info (track names) if and only if the CD was encoded with this info utilizing the CD-Text standard. It's really a shame that more discs don't have this info on them, as it's been around for almost 15 years and comes in very handy when using CD-Text compatible players such as the Genesis, but the reality of it is that most CDs (old or new) lack this extra info. After doing some research, I cannot figure out why not (as it's extremely inexpensive). I also cannot find a list of CD-Text albums, which would be interesting/helpful to glance at, I think.

As for newownerinorange's experience, I don't know why the IS250 would display CD info that the Genesis would not. It could be that Lexus added their own data info inventory for discs without CD-Text as a supplement, but that's pure speculation. I'm not aware of any devices being compatible with only some CD-Text discs - I'm pretty sure it's all or nothing. I'm stumped by that one.

Regarding newownerinorange's other comments... those issues have all been discussed here before. The Lexicon stereo system is far from perfect, but in the opinion of many Genesis owners (my generalization of the things I've read on this forum), its incredible audio fidelity more than makes up for most of the software errors/omissions that are present. It could have more functionality and the functions it does have could've been made to work more intuitively, that's for sure. This is the main (only?) area on the Genesis that appears to suffer from being rushed into production, or possible R&D budget overruns. There's a lot of positives, and at the core it is a very capable system, but a few minor tweaks would have gone a long way for those of us who utilize the stereo often (constantly!).

I do think we will see sizable improvements in the DIS' software for the Genesis' first big refresh. I like the simplicity of it, but think that adding at least a few more "advanced" features (even if you have to dig around to find them) is very important. Little things like improved "random" functionality, a folder list that stays put and remembers where you were while you try to navigate into and out of folders, etc, would make the experience much better. Hopefully that's coming in the near future.
