  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

According to page 4-6 of the Owners Manual, the engine cannot be started when the immobilizer system failed. The only way to start the engine is follow the procedures to activate "Limp Home" mode.
The "Limp Home" mode requires a password. The manual says you get the password when you pick up the Gen from your dealer. My dealer never gave me any passwords. Any Gen owners here receive such password from their dealers?

Interesting! I wonder if Canada has a different manual. My manual talks about the smart key on these pages, but nothing about limp home mode. Check your pages against the U.S. manual here and see if they match. http://cid-5103094dcbb8400e.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Public/2009 Genesis Owners Manual.pdf

I know of no place to enter passwords in this car, directly. The Smart Key has a unique PIN, controlled by Hyundai, and you can only enter it using a service laptop. Check out the following on key programming:

I looked at the US version of the Owners Manual. Page 4-5 is the same as my Canadian manual. Page 4-6 on the US manual talk about the Smart key, the Canadian version talk about the Smart key on page 4-7.
I picked up my car on Oct 31. Could this means this info was missing from the earlier version and Hyundai is updating the manual with the newer Gen? Maybe other recent Gen owners can check their manuals and confirm.
