  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I recently downloaded version 14.0 of the navigation maps. Since I could not find a post anywhere in this forum (or on the web in general) I thought I would share the location of the files that are downloaded during the map update process.

This may be useful if your local drive is not very large and you want to move the files to an alternate location for storage. In the event you need to re-do the process, you could place the files back in this location which may prevent you from having to download the files again which can take over an hour.

I have not yet installed the new maps in the car but will try to update this post with my experience once I do.

The 14.0 maps have been successfully installed. I did not time it but it seems like it took at least 15-20 minutes to install (sitting in the driveway with the engine running).
Also, I used a micro SD card with a full size SD card adapter - worked fine. I did not want to overwrite the factory SD card in case something went wrong and I needed to re-install the previous maps, etc.

I didn’t not think you can go back once you have updated. Will that actually work if you put the original factory card back in and try to back up to a prior revision?

I have not tried it. But I thought I read a post somewhere that said you could.

You can't. Once the firmware is updated that's it. If you insert an old card it'll throw an error on the dash.

My original thought was "in case something went wrong and I needed to re-install the previous maps, etc.", meaning if the newer version was corrupt and did not install, I would still have a copy of the older setup. Sorry I got off track in my thoughts from one day to the next.

If the whole card is corrupt then sure. But the way the update works it seems to do the firmware, then the map. So it's possible to do a "partial" update.
