In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Got a long drive coming up, driving from Richmond, VA area to New Orleans. I'll be driving about 2500 miles over 7 days (there and back + all around NOLA). First long trip I'll be taking in my Genesis. I'm interested in testing these seats out for a long haul as well as the cruise control. Right now my mileage back and forth to work is at 23.7, so I am curious to see if I will get better gas mileage on this long highway only run. I'll be driving there in a single run 1,008 miles in about 15-16 hours, only stopping for food and gas with the same on the return.

Anyone else taken any long hauls in their Genesis? Curious as to you MPG.

Absolute best I've managed is 32 mpg (indicated) with cruise set at 70 mph and, with traffic, speed varying from 60-70mph. That was a highway-only segment (reset the counter while on the road) and was just a few weeks ago = hot summer day (90+) with AC on. Also - that was in ECO mode!

BTW - based on recent posts, make sure your spare is at correct pressure before you set off on this long trip.

LOL yeah I saw that. Thanks.

Adding to my post, I am getting the windows tinted 2 days before I leave as well.

I've had one "long" road trip on my Jenny. I averaged 30-31 mpg on the 1,300 total mileage trip.

Be sure to check the tire inflation before you go (including the spare). I always inflate my pressure by one pound over the recommended pressure for lightly loaded car; two if heavily loaded.

Best wishes for a safe and fun trip.

Should be a comfortable trip for you. I have over 9000 miles on mine in 3 1/2 months. Do you have the seats with the bolsters and extending thigh support?

Tint shop will tell you not to open windows for 5 days after tint. Toll booths enroute will be fun. :)

Sure do! Love that feature. Should make the seats very comfortable. I've done this trip on my 2010 CX-9 about a dozen times and that vehicle is incredibly comfortable.

They told me 48 hours. Even if it's longer, not much of an issue considering there are no tolls the entire trip. It's surprising, but the roads I'll be on don't do tolls unless they are in the North East. It's too damn hot for the windows down, so AC the whole way.

I got 28.7 from L.I., NY through the mountains of NH and VT. and back. A lot of windy roads and beautiful scenery. In sport mode about 30% of the time and the rest normal. Car felt right in sport mode on those roads. About 1000 miles. 2 people and luggage. Brattleboro, Vt.-Burlington, Vt.-N. Conway, NH-Tiverton, R.I. Waze helped steer me around traffic.

My son was stationed in Biloxi, so I've done the same trip once or twice, but not since Katrina. I usually got gas just over the SC border, and the other side of Montgomery. I've been doing some back and forth between FL and NC, and I usually get about 28-29 mpg, doing anywhere between 75 & 95, depending on how fast the guy I'm following is going. ;-) Traffic is usually heavy enough that I can't use the SCC more than part of the time.

That's funny, those are the same places I stopped when driving down there with my CX-9. I normally leave around midnight after a few hours rest, so traffic is not always a big concern for me. I am hoping for 30MPG.

One trip, I was following a guy hustling along at a very good clip. When we got to Atlanta, I took the beltway East, and he went straight thru downtown. I wondered if I'd ever catch up with him again. As it turned out, sort of. On the south side of Atlanta, where the beltway joins back up with I85, I saw him on the shoulder, just before the junction, with one of Georgia's finest with the rollers going, busy writing him up an award for his fine driving. He didn't look very happy! :-)

...I am hoping for 30MPG.

In our 5.0 on a recent road trip, we got calculated mileage ranging from 22.4 up to 25.4. Not to bad for a 420 HP car. I would think with your V6 you should see 30+ rather easily. I use ECO mode in all places except on & off ramps, redline hole shots at red lights and when I just need that extra power in Sport mode. Have a fun trip and am looking forward to your feedback on the mileage.

Regarding your seats, your going to love them. Before buying this car we took trips in my wife's Honda Civic. An hour into the drive my legs would start hurting. With this car, I drove 8-9 hours straight with zero issues. Down right worth every penny I paid for this car in my mind.

Enjoy your trip! In November I will be driving my genesis from northwest Arkansas to Las Vegas for SEMA and next summer we'll he heading from Northwest Arkansas to VA Beach - I cant wait for both trips!

I just finished a 16-day-round-trip from central Kentucky to San Francisco via I-40 and Phoenix with my daughter and grand daughter. Total 6200 miles. Great trip in a great ride! I now have 15000+ miles on my 8-month-old Genny and I love her more all the time.

The indicator showed 29.2 mpg, but calculation for the entire trip showed 26.5 mpg. It would have been quite a bit higher if we hadn't creeped down Las Vegas Strip twice and cruised the San Francisco hills, along with other sight-seeing. That is fine; I keep track of mileage but don't worry about it.

What a great trip!

Finished the trip... 2465 miles total.

Comfort was fantastic. Didn't feel sore/stiff even after driving for 7 hours straight. I drove the entire 1100 miles, each way, in one stretch only stopping for gas and fast food.

I got 29MPG based on the car's display. Pretty good, IMO, considering I wasn't driving easy and I relied on the adaptive cruise control a lot.

My 5-year old did the drive with me and he did very well. The recent tint and the the rear/side shades were huge for him.

a 5 year old in a car for 7 hours straight is an accomplishment in and of itself

+10.

As for the topic at hand, I also put about the same mileage on my car recently and for reference I averaged an indicated 25.5mpg with the V8.

Thank You for the update "wasnt". Glad to hear you enjoyed the ride. The seats in these cars are amazing. I couldn't go an hour in my wife's Civic without getting pains.

I, too, recently completed a very long trip that accumulated over 2400 miles. The first day was ~960 miles over 15 hours and the last day was a repeat of the first, but in the opposite direction. In between was a mix of local and highway driving in eastern Iowa.

The Genesis was at least as comfortable as any other car I've driven on that trip...maybe more so as I didn't seem to suffer from any aches and pains while driving. The Adaptive Cruise Control was nice to use and helped a lot, but sometimes reacted kind of strange by slowing down as I pulled out to pass, or dramatically slowing down when coming up on an 18-wheeler just starting up a steep hill.

Overall gas mileage for the whole trip came in at 29 MPG figured by miles driven divided by gas used. (I keep my fills and miles recorded in a small notebook). The trip covered the hills of western Maryland, West Virginia around Morgantown and up to I-70 in PA. Then across Ohio, Indiana, & Illinois into eastern Iowa. On one leg, eastern OH to western IN we hit a high of 31.5 MPG.

You learn to pull over into the passing lane sooner, so the SCC doesn't do that. By the time it lights up with a vehicle icon, I'm thinking about pulling over.
