  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Considering replacing my wife's 2011 Taurus Limited with a CPO 2015 3.8 Ultimate (Ibiza Blue/Ivory, 29K miles); we plan on visiting the dealer Wednesday. I've read the Owners Manual online (yes, I'm crazy) and will try to check everything's operation, but I thought I'd reach out to the community for help in identifying what I absolutely have to look at. Dealer will have a CarFax available, of course. Your thoughts re: Problem areas? Common warranty issues? Thanks in advance for your help!

If everything works you should be good to go. I had a radio problem fixed under warranty, but nothing else. If the original tires are on it you should be able to get another 8,000 miles or so.

Major areas to consider:
- Sunroof
- Backup camera (Both view settings)
- All radio receivers (Bluetooth, XM, AM/FM)
- All door handles (yes, my driver rear door latch was disconnected. Could not get out from inside)
- A/C (Make sure it consistently blows cold)

Other than that, just click or push every button you can. There are A LOT of electronics on mine, even more with the Ultimate you're looking at. Good luck

1- drive with the radio off to make sure the car doesn’t have a moonroof rattle that some experience. Same goes for any other rattle in general.

2- drive between 25-30 mph, but don’t punch it hard to make sure the car doesn’t have the propeller driveshaft flutter that I had to go through.

3- turn on the AC at a stop or a light and see if the car exhibits a “rough idle “ while the AC is on.

4- check window switches as well. Both of my rear window switches are DOA at the moment.

5- I bought my genesis is April. Had 28k miles on the original tires. At 34k I was at 4/32, which is as low as you want to go. Negotiate for new tires or the cost of replacement off the price.

Ah... great input. This is just what I was hoping for. Thanks, everyone! :)

Does CPO include the updated radio software and map? If they don't do that by default, I'd ask them to throw that in at no cost to you if you decide to purchase.

I forgot the biggest issue LOL make sure you do not tell them when you are coming. Start the car from a cold idle. I mean that as an overnight cold start. Look for a rough idle for the first 20 seconds or so on a cold start up. If so, your injectors are clogged. It evens out after stated time period. They will replace those under warranty.

Great point. Do you know how long this update typically takes?

Look up warranties for your car, (really just electronics) if the radio head unit goes out, that's ~4k to replace. For reference on a 2015 5.0 ultimate with 43k miles, i got a 10yr 100k warranty with no deductible @ that dealer ($100 anywhere else) "wrap" warranty for ~$1850+tax. The factory warranty on model year 15 is only 3yr/36k for electronics, 2016 was 5yr/60k fyi.

I have the same scheme, albeit in the 5.0 (Ibiza blue/Ivory) and I LOVE it. I never see anyone else with the color so I'm pretty happy.

Just picked up a 2015 CPO 3.8 AWD w/ Tech package myself last week. I was initially eyeing an Ultimate model, but the Ultimate stereo package does not allow for Apple CarPlay nor Android Auto. Having CarPlay was an easy tradeoff IMHO as it's the main part of the car that I use EVERY day vs. the extra bells and whistles of the Ultimate. Also saved me a $1000 since it's a lower trim(y)

Yeah this is something to keep in mind. There is a hardware incompatibility with the 15/16 (maybe 17?) Genesis ultimate trims and android auto/CarPlay.

I picked the ultimate because for me personally, having the better touchscreen AND knob, power trunk, and most importantly, the heads up display, was better than having the android auto. It's a personal choice that we unfortunately have to make but I dont regret it at all. I dont think I'll EVER get a car that doesnt have a HUD, it's so useful I dont even look at the gauge cluster normally when driving.

You should also check for the engine startup rattle. Mine does exactly the same thing as my previous 2013 Azera. It rattles when the engine is warm. You shut it off and then start it up 15 or 20 mins later. However, it does not rattle that much on cold startup. If yours is CPO, I would not worry about it. I checked all these items on mine prior buying it and had the flutter when coasting at 25 - 30mph after the car has been stationary for couple hours and I also discovered the startup rattle before buying but I still bought it since these items are covered by CPO. With my previous Azera, they replaced the engine due to the rattle. It costed me $50 deductible and they paid little over $6300 (it wasn't easy, it took me 3 visits at 2 different dealerships and also recording videos so there is evidence in case I had to go through Hyundai Customer Care). I am also sure that there are many Genesis owners that don't even notice these little things.

An update...

We didn't buy the car. The fuel door was open and wouldn't latch; it needed a part that they apparently had on hand but hadn't yet installed. The trunk lid was seriously misaligned: the gap on the driver's side was ~1/32", and ~3/8" on the passenger's side; I'm assuming this car was in a fender bender at some point. The car was dirty. In addition, someone had gotten a little hamfisted with a buffer, and there were streaks all over the car. This, mind you, was a CPO with 27K miles. The map hadn't been updated, by the way, but they offered to update it for a mere $200.

In the end, this didn't require a lot of deliberation. The car showed horribly, and I can only come up with one explanation for how the trunk lid could have gotten so miserably misaligned.

I drove 2-3/4 hours to see this car (yes, I'm crazy). They haven't yet credited the $1000 put on my cc as a deposit to hold the car. I'll check again tomorrow. What a disappointment!!

Lake Norman Hyundai, near Charlotte NC

P.S. Drove the car around 20 miles or so, and was really impressed!

Smart move. I've owned 5 Hyundai/Genesis cars and the one thing that impressed me on every one is the fit of body panels. Perfect. Far better than any GM I've owned.

Keep looking. There should be a lot coming off of lease now.

Thanks. Looking at a 2016 Ultimate (burgundy/ivory) I found at CarMax. Being transferred to my nearest CM location. Only 17K miles!

P.P.S. They claim to have credited my credit card, but when I check my Chase account, there's no credit transaction recorded. I've talked to Chase, and the rep I spoke with described the situation as "sketchy," and suggested I wait several days to see if the credit shows on my account. If it doesn't, we'll dispute the charge. ...and I'll call Hyundai USA. Lake Norman Hyundai, NC.

In my opinion the best thing you could do is to SEE a list of how many times the car has been in for service. I would verify that the information is correct. If the car has been into the shop multiple times (like mine has) then you should consider walking away. My service adviser and service manager have both told me that the '15 model year is ripe with mechanical, structural and electrical problems. Your results may vary.

I purchased another car, but thanks.
