  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

does anyone know where i can find a more powerful alternator for my 3.8 sedan? im an audio freak and i need more power to my amp so im changing the alternator and doing the big 3 upgrade.

Can't you just run a capacitor and/or change the battery to a higher capacity. I would think with all the electronics in the Genesis it already has a fairly high output alternator.

ok, thats sounds better. should i get a bigger battery or another seperate battery?

How much power we talking about here? I really think unless you are going to use three or more amps, a cap and maybe a deep cycle battery will be all you need.

I am not sure exactly how to add another battery, but I just googled it and tons of info came up. It seems fairly straightforward.

Are you going to be one of those guys who owns audio equipment that costs more than the car, and that you can hear the bass from blocks away?

no i would never put more into an sound system worth more than my car, thats ridiculous. im just trying to get the full effect out of what i have.

Add more batteries in the trunk and then install a windmill on top of the car, so that when you are blitzing down the highway at 90 mph, the prop on the windmill will charge the batteries. Also, take every square inch of free space and add solar panels for an extra kick. :)

haha. i already have a second battery.

One of the problems with a low volume car is aftermarket parts availability. Add in the fact that the Genesis has a pretty decent audio system to begin with and things like alternators are going to be very hard, if not impossible to find. A larger battery/batteries could help. Are you having sustained power problems, or just peak power limitations? Also, if you add enough weight to the trunk, you'll attain the coveted 50/50 weight ratio, and you might even smooth out the suspension a little ;-)

when i first got my subs installed i thought i would need to upgrade the alternator. i didnt know how powerful the stock alternator was at first, now i realize its perfectly capable of pushing my 1200 watts. im not having any power problems. and yes there is definitely more weight in the trunk (about 100 pounds. my friends think i lowered my car. lol)

Lugging an extra 100lbs around in the trunk has an impact on your fuel economy, though. Takes gas to accelerate that mass after each stop.... OUCH.

yeah it used to be pretty bad. my cold air intake helps out a bit now. im getting about 19ish city and about 26-27 on the highway

Not sure if you still even looking at this but it Depends on what you are running. I am trying to run 7000 watt DC Audio and i would need a 520amp alt . that never happened. Right now i have a battery called XS power D3100 (5000) amps battery and i be getting a second one. So i will have my stock battery under the hood and two XS power D3100 in my trunk.. Right now till i get my new Battery I am running about 3750 to 4000 watts. so really just just getting half power for now
