  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
No Genesis Yet!
Looking to purchase a 1st generation Genesis. I have kept an eye on these cars since they were introduced in 2009. I drive conservatively so the 5.0 R Spec is not of interest to me. Leaning toward 3.8 for economy. Any preference between the early 6 speed transmission and the later 8 speed transmission? I do my own maintenance and usually keep my cars for 200,000 plus miles. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Not much advice necessary except to get a ‘13, or ‘14. The last cars in the series before the redesign are usually the most bug-free. My ‘12 3.8 Premium package (touchscreen) has been excellent. Funny, though, it streams BT audio, but the ‘12 Technology package (jog dial, not touchscreen) did not have that capability.

Go for the 5.0 for the smooth acceleration.

+1 with this recommendation. Bluelink was introduced in '13, and new colors in '14. Plenty of choices between both years. The '14 3.8 is about as peppy as my '12 4.6. You will not want for power/torque.

OP: Don't own a Genesis out of warranty, unless you're comfortable replacing things like radar cruise units, backup cameras, and ABS units... or have a good mechanic. Our cars are cheap to buy but expensive to repair at the dealer (think: BMW/Mercedes expensive).
