Greetings all,
Bought my 2011 v6 Sedan from SF Hyundai (part of Cammisa Motor Burlingame Sales) in 2011 - secondary car. I only put regular octane gas since I bought this and can average 29 mpg on long drives, but about 19 city.
Did my warrantied service to fix a right pulling issue but that was the extent of it. That service center has since closed in 2015.
Been taking it to Serramonte area since for regular oil change every 7500 mi. Changed the inside and engine filter myself. Weekend driver but I do take the car for long drives every 2 weeks to keep the battery going. The car has had no problems until now. The lexicon system rocks and my wheel replacement at Costco last Dec. went fine (Serenity Plus), very quiet during my long drive to Vegas. The original tires were cracking but bit the bullet when I encountered a double flat parking in Oakland.
3 weeks ago I noticed my ESC and ABS brakes came on after I drove the car at about 5 mins. Car drives fine but won't shift to 6 gear.
Took it to a local mechanic I found on Yelp (they fix Hyundai in general but admitted that this is the first Genesis repair) and paid for diagnostics - they found P0501 (sensor issue) and quoted about 2 hours labor (about $425 for the sensor module that goes front right wheel I believe). They called the next day and said they won't charge me for repairs and diagnostics as they cannot get the lights off after replacement - and recommended me to take it to the dealer.
Serramonte Hyundai service advisor charged me $160 for diagnostics - and quoted $2600 for repairs - didn't even bother itemizing.
Here is the OCR scan of the results

INSPECTED PIN 1 8 32 FOR GOOD VOLTAGE AND FOUND 12V. GOOD.
AT THIS TIME RECOMMEND TO REPLACE ESC MODULE AND BLEED BRAKE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM AND RECHECK.
CUSTOMER HAS DECLINED ALL REPAIR AT THIS TIME VEHICLE UNSAFE
I took it back and checked what they are talking about and found the module cost $750 online.
I will take it to another dealer to get a 2nd quote, and looking (in vain) for a Hyundai Genesis repair shop, glad this is not my primary car.
