If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

All,
Im looking at a 2012 R Spec that a VW dealer has for sale approx 35Kmiles @14 grand.
I know the R Spec has oil consumption/engine failure issues mostly the beginning of the run. The car has a build date of Feb 23/2012. Does this fall in the early or middle of the build cycle?
Thoughts? I love the car but not if the engine is going to blow up. I know there is still a little time on warranty but My luck is stuff starts breaking after the warranty expires.
Thanks in advance for your advice!

I had a 2102 R-Spec and had it until 118K on it and I had zero issues with the engine. Only problem was the Trans, 2012 and early 2013 has problems with the trans. Mine went at 50K and the second was going at 118K, just be careful.

I also think warranty is up, 5 years 60k miles.

own since 2013 and this vehicle has been great. zero issues and knock on wood no trans probs.

I have a 2012 R-Spec with 140000 on it with 0 issues. Yes it does consume oil but the odd thing is that it does not smoke on start up or while running so who knows where it goes. I think an oil catch can may help a bit but thats only so it does not go back through the pvc and get the plugs fouled. Any way, Good luck, I love mine. Many a victim has fallen to her unsuspecting speed.

Feb. ‘12 is 8.5 years ago. What warranty do you dream it has?

Thanks, I’m glad it made you feel relevant. Sadly, your post was totally irrelevant to the issue at hand. The OP thinks the car has a warranty. It likely does not.
Sorry I thought at that time it was 10 years/100k miles?

Do you know when it was built?

You are correct!😀

Yes, but only for the original owner, or via a CPO used car warranty. The VW dealer is not likely to offer you that option.

Feb 2012 is toward the end of the date range with the oil burn issues (which is March 2012).

14k is overpriced.

The warranty is expired.

Avoid this car.

When I bought my 2012 I bought an extended for the dealer. I think it extended it to 200K but it was an add on warranty. I have had to use it and believe me it is worth it. Nothing major but the drivers side window control unit went out and all I had to pay was 100.00 and the part was 500 I think.
