  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
No Genesis Yet!
Hello All, I am looking to buy used Hyundai Genesis V6 sedan model either 2012-2014 OR 2015-2016. But I can't figure out which one is more nimble/sharper around the corners. I have test driven (10 mins) the 2015-2016 Hyundai Genesis and it felt more of a Chrysler 300 type of ride. Therefore I am looking for a real owners perspective. The other car I am considering is 2011-2012 Cadillac CTS. I appreciate any insight here from current/previous owners here. Thanks !

Your 2 choices are vastly different in my opinion, Genesis vs. CTS. But when it comes to the Genesis I owned a 2010 3.8 premium and recently traded it in for a 2016 3.8 AWD signature. If your looking for handling that is nimble and sharp neither is really a canyon carver. But I think my 2016 handles much better then my 2010.

Pls, stay AWAY from Cadillac. Reliability and build quality are sorely lacking.

As for which Genesis to purchase, I'd stick to the 2015-2016MY. Hyundai made materials quality and smoothness top priority in the latest generation. If you want to enhance the driving abilities, buy a new set of tires. Preferably Michelins.

What are the issues that the 2011-up Cadillac CTS are having? The only issues that I was aware of was the radio units that freezes and need some type of hard reboot. Older 2011- up Genesis also have some build quailty issues as well like door handle trim that can cut you when it peels.

I have owned a 2013 Genesis 3.8 V6 RWD as well as my current 2015 Genesis 3.8 AWD. The 2013 was faster, largely because of the AWD system and weight on my 2015. The 2015 feels more nimble with less body roll, both came with 18 inch wheels standard. The 2015 has a lower profile tire than the 2013. The AWD system allows for more aggressive, nimble moves in rain and snow. My 2013 was decent in the rain but meh in the snow. I would get a 2015-2016 without AWD and get the best of both worlds. The 2015 AWD is great, but suffers from low gas mileage compared to the 2015 RWD. I went to get gas once a week with my 2013 RWD V6. I have to go twice a week with the 2015 AWD V6. Either way you can't go wrong, just depends on your needs. I also prefer the 2015-2016 body shape.

Exactly what he said! My 2010 was indeed a quicker car, was abysmal in the snow, but it got better with the Continental DWS06 tires. Best all season tire I've ever run in my opinion.

I'm NOT a Michelin fan at all. I went +2 on my 2016 and am running Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 summer tires and they are insanely sticky. Much better then the Bridgestine RE series summer tires I've been partial to in the past. I'm switching to my stock wheels with the DWO6's in the winter. The summer tires transformed my 2016....as expected.

I live in Texas, so AWD hasn't been necessary. I have a 2015 Genesis 5.0 and have had no issues since buying it used.

Review of 2015 Genesis.

Get the newest car you can. Generally, longer warranty, lower miles, fit and finish get better each year. 1st Gen and 2nd Gen are very different as others have pointed out. Get what's in your price range, you can't really go wrong with either. I'd vote the G80 but if finances don't allow, go with a late model 2016.

I take it this is the answer to my Cadilalc CTS question. A video of some guy who is just ranting about various GM engine such as the North-star engine and V6 engines as well many other cars. However, I have heard some bad things about the Northstar V8 and early GM 3.6 V6(2010-2013) engines with high miles so he may be correct in his opion about those engines in early Cadillac models.

I pretty much agree with the owner review of the Genesis. Very nice luxury car overall which is actually affordable and easy to maintain.:)

One of many reviews online. You asked for opinions, and I gave you one.

Fair enough.:)

I assumed you have some first hand knowledge of the newer CTS models from 2014-up which compares more to our 2015-up Genesis models. Most older models of any car maker before 2014 has some issues including our 5.0 Tau engines that was oil burners before the 2015 update.

Its been some time with the car - so i can give you some more reviews.

I dont think there is a lot in the Genesis 3.8 V6 thats very unique or special than say a MB EClass or a BMW 550i . Even the Lexus LS 350 is comparable. I bought the car for its overall package.

You buy what your heart says , after test drive.

Also do a small calculation @ 21 - 23 miles per gallon - and see if you are ok with that gas mileage.

Bear in mind , its not just the car you're buying . Its a relationship with the brand.

You got to be ok to take it to Hyundai Dealers who might not have decent waiting lounges for you. You might not get a temporary car , when your genesis is in repairs (i've never got one) . You might not even get a ride back home from the Hyundai dealer when you leave the car there in the morning for repair (my Hyundai Dealer said - we drop only upto 5 miles , and your address is ~ 8miles) .

Another aspect thats common with all these modern cars is their parts are not repairable . The complete assembly needs to be changed. In my Genesis they replaced the complete rear brake light assembly ($180+ part) just because a little rubber liner was breaking apart. The darn thing is just 1 part.

Also this is a Korean car - It might take time to get parts (in some cases where parts are uncommon) . I waited for 3+ weeks to get rear window switch (since they are color matched to the interior trim) from Hyundai Korea. I had ordered a Paint touch up pen - which never came for my exact color shade . I've since not called the parts department to even check it out .

I have another car - a BMW . I do not want to compare BMW with any of the above aspects . The service quality and quality of dealerships is beyond comparison to Hyundai.

After you driver the car , you might love it . In my case - i do - and i am ok to forget all the stuff above. For me thats all that matters is to smile everytime i drive my Genesis .

Had a 2013 3.8 premium. Excellent reliability, fast, averaged over 26 mpg. With snow tires, no problems in winter (I live in Iowa). Now have 2016 awd 3.8 Ultimate. Quieter, much better ride, great car in snowy and inclement weather, very good build quality, average 23. I feel 2016 a definite step up, except visibility not as good. Good luck! Look for a cpo.

Have a 2016 3.8 awd ultimate. I love this car. Zero issues. Drives amazing. About to turn it on lease In a couple months. Sad to see it go. Hopefully someone babies it as much as I have ! Only issue is the stock tires lasted only 22k miles. Michelin warrantied then to 50% and I got a replacement set for 300$. So can’t complaint. That was with normal driving nothing crazy. Phenomenal car !!!
