  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello, I'm sure you guys have seen the news but the Kia Stingers in yellow have paint issues and they are offering me a buyback of which I'm considering taking and getting myself a G70. Timing could be perfect with the release of G70 if it releases soon. I'm thinking I'll go with the highest 3.3 trim. I'm worried about space in the back seats cause I'm 6'6 tall and would hate to have no room behind me. Also do we have any idea of when this G70 might come in? I went to a Hyundai dealership near me and their Genesis specialist told me he's thinking the next few weeks.

They are really stepping up to do a buy back.

Any date you see on the G70 is pure speculation. Only concrete day from corporate is "summer" so they have to Sept 21. Speculation is from the next couple of weeks to Sept. 1.

If you're 6'6", anyone sitting behind you will be pretty squeezed. The biggest problem with space in the back is that if the person in front has their seat down low, there's no place for the rear seat passenger's toes to go. This is made worse by the lower ceiling height if the car has a sunroof, which necessitates a lower seating position. If you plan on having full-size people in the back seats for substantial distances, the G70 may not be your best choice. It's not impossible to get someone back there but if you're 6'6", I think they'll be pretty miserable sitting behind you for a long drive. It promises to be a great car in many ways but rear seat passenger room is one of the things that has been most often criticized.

I sold a G70 to a guy who is 6'4" and I fit behind him with a tad bit of room left (I am 5'11"). It would be fine bombing around the city but perhaps not the most comfortable place on an 8 hour road trip. If you're 6'6" and want to fit a passenger in the back, make sure they sit behind the front passenger seat for more comfort.

Get a G80 Sport. Same 3.3TT and no issues with passengers in the back. No, it's not the G70. No, it's not going to be as agile. But, the car is gorgeous and can move.

This doesn't help you what so ever which I am aware of but figured I'd give ya another route (y)

The back seat will only be an issue if you regularly have someone behind you. I have a 10 and 12 year old and my 12 year old doesn't like sitting behind me in the G70 (I am 5'10" and he is 5'3"), he can definitely fit, just doesn't like it. He voted for the Stinger because of that, but I ultimately vetoed him as the G70 is never used for trips out of the city and he can just sit behind the passenger if he really needs more space. lol

I should be getting my letter from Kia for my buyback any day now, I'm definitely aiming towards the G70, my biggest issue right now is hoping that the G70's get released soon and that I can find a blue top trim version with black and red interior. Do you guys think this will be hard to come across?

I think impossible to say. That combination doesn't sound particularly esoteric but we don't know how many cars each dealer will get in their initial allocations. If no dealer near to you gets more than 2 or 3 cars initially, it will be harder to find the exact combination that you want. If they get 6 or 7 cars each, should be a lot easier.

Dealers may be less inclined to swap any cars of their initial allocation with other dealers unless the two dealerships can determine a win-win swap works ideally for both parties. If Dealer A has a customer hungry for a black model and all they have in that configuration is a blue one, while nearby Dealer B has a black one in stock but a customer who wants a blue one, that's the ideal situation for a swap. Win-win. Once cars are more plentiful, swaps don't need to be as much a one-to-one trade. But initially, they probably will. The tighter the inventory, the less trading they'll do. They'll just wait a bit to see if someone wanders in who wants the configuration they have on their lot or try to convince the customer that there aren't any to be found outfitted to their preference. Remember, most dealerships probably have lists of customers who've enquired about a G70 and are waiting for the call. (They also have lists of which other dealerships have what in stock.) Those wait-list customers may have some flexibility regarding what they'll accept. Based on what I've seen, if I were in that situation, there are probably three or so colors I'd be fine with. Maybe more. Most dealers probably have people waiting on inventory and willing to move a bit on color preferences. Personally, color would matter less to me than the complement of features the car has. I'd want the 3.3 Sport AWD. No interest in something else. I just wouldn't buy a car without the features I want. On the other hand, I might be persuaded to get one that had the features but wasn't in my top-choice color. I suspect I'm not alone.

If cars sit for a while, things will change, of course. But initially, your best hope is that the dealer you're working with gets the car you are looking for.

What'd you end up doing with the buyback and the G70?
