  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all,

I'm currently looking at purchasing a 2010 Genesis with the 4.6 with only 25k miles. I looked at the CarFax and discovered @ 19k miles the engine was replaced at a Hyundai dealership. This made me nervous. I called the service advisor of that dealership and found out it came in with a check engine light and they said it had engine failure. He said they ended up rebuilding the engine with new parts... I pressed him and said would you buy this car? He said yes. What do you guys think?

I have an 09 4.6. Go test drive it and drive it hard. Take it to 100mph on the freeway. Stomp the gas off of red lights. Seriously

if everything seems OK after that then you can consider buying it.

Thats how I drive mine with 80k miles and many owners. Mechanics are always amazed after they drive it

I would not unless they are giving it away and I get an extended warranty...
On mine, I had the engine replaced on mine at 89k because an error on the dealer part during a routine oil change. The car was never the same after that!
The engine was fine, but wheel balance was out and could never be corrected l, then the gearbox started to play up around 95k ....just my two cents for what’s worth.

May have been the valve spring issue that some early 4.6s had. If it's been fixed I wouldn't be too worried about it. Get an extended warranty if you'd like for peace of mind and change all the fluids just due to age.
