  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
    If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hope I'm not speaking too early, however;

Where are the LoveBugs that are normally in Florida (and Southern SC, GA, AL & MS) this time of year? Last week, on three different days, I saw one pair on each of those three days, Today I again saw one pair.

To those of you who don't live in the SouthEast, the LoveBugs are bugs that fly "Butt to Butt" (hence "LoveBugs") and they have two seasons in Florida (not sure about the other SE States). The seasons are May and September. Normally by now, I'd have the front of my cars covered with "LoveBug Screens", and I would see cars with windshields black with smashed LoveBugs. They have no enemies, other than the front of cars. Birds won't eat them as they have an acid in their bodies that make them taste bad to birds. That same acid will eat the paint off the front of your car if you leave it on more than a day. I've seen them as far North as Hardyville SC, however my daughter who lives near Columbia has never seen them.

Normally, at this time of year, it seems that they all choose my front porch to die, and I have to hose them off every couple days. This year, nothing.
Anyone else (mostly in Florida) see any?

I haven't encountered any in Texas so far. They sure make a mess. Some years ago, I was towing a trailer and I had to stop 3 times between the coast and Austin to clean the radiator, windshield, and headlights. The only thing worse is a butterfly migration.

A light coating of PAM (vegetable shortening) over the painted and chrome surfaces will make those luv bugs wipe off. The only thing that works on the windshield that I have found is RainX but I do not like to use that.

They are HORRIBLE!!

We usually travel 65 South to Gulf Shores, AL. Once you hit the toll road to head to Orange Beach you get hammered!!!

My parents left today for the Gulf. I totally forgot to ask them about it. Usually, before we even check in to the condo we swing through the carwash!

Here is a funny for ya: What is the first thing that goes through a bee's mind when he hits the windsheild??? HIS A$$!!!! HA! I would imagine its the same for the lovebugs too! ;)

You initially have to get the hose out and flood the windshield and hood with copious amounts of plain water to loosen those little, gooey, stinky, hardened, kling-on beastie bodies off the car even before a run thru the car wash, it seems to me. BLEECCHH :mad:

Well, today they hit. Ilive in Cocoa, Fl. space coast. Getting worse as day goes on.
Old method or cleaning, wet adryer sheet, they wipe right off but you do need to re-polish.
