  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
Genesis G70
Just got in my G70 a couple of days ago. As I pressed the start button, the engine struggles to turn over. Once on, a "lka not working" message popped up and the check engine light came on. I tried backing the car out, and realized I did not have power steering. When I log into mygenesis.com I get Action Required: 1) Electronic Power Steering Problem Detected at 1,657 miles and 2) Engine Problem Detected at 1,657 miles. The application says the battery is at 51%.

Having had a WRX as my last car, I know that a low battery can cause havoc on the vehicle, so my question is: Has anyone else ran into this as a result of a low/dead battery?

Not sure of those specific errors but yes, others ran into electronic errors with low battery. That goes for other models as well.

Well, they just picked her up---I'll let y'all know what happens.

Alrighty---so there's good news and bad news.

I got a call from my local Hyundai/Genesis dealer and they have found the problem. It appears that a rodent had chewed through some wires on the steering rack. This is obviously not covered under warranty and will have to be turned into insurance. Cost: $4600!!

I decided to drive to the dealership to see first hand what the issue was. It looks like a rodent has in fact chewed through some wiring. The interesting part is that it is a wire harness that has 2 distinct ends and also has a part number on it. When I asked the service person why we can't just replace the harness, she said the only way to get the harness is to buy the entire rack!! I asked that she follow up on Monday and get back to me. The part number on the harness was J5577-76200. Thoughts?

Certainly seems dumb and costly to have to replace the entire assembly. I can understand having it as a unit if damaged in an accident but not for this.
Does your insurance cover it? How about homeowners?

If what you pictured is the only damage, why can it not be repaired? Hell, I could repair that in thirty minutes and it would be good as new!

With regards to repair, they are claiming that it’s a safety issue and they will not repair it—understandable from a liability issue.

My insurance will probably cover it, but I agree, it’s a harness and has a part number. Genesis SHOULD be able to get one! I really don’t want a car with 1600 miles tampered with for no good reason.

Just saw your post while researching the same issue that recently happened to my G70. My car has 12k and a rodent got the same wiring harness. Were you able to find anything out about a replacement harness or if your insurance covered it?
