  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

On Saturday, my wife and I had a morning appointment in New Jersey. We drove from MA to NJ and back to MA in one day. Total of 460 miles.

Left home at 5:30am. Temps: 50s; 3/4 tank gas (87 octane); Heat on.

At about 1/2 take of gas, we stopped at a rest stop (in CT) to release our coffee build up. Filled up (87 octane). Heat off.

Arrived in Edison, NJ about 9:30am. Temps: 70s; ~3/4 tank gas. Had our appointment.

Drove from Edison to Iselin for lunch and shopping. Temps: 80

Left Iselin at 1:30pm to head home. Temps: 85. AC on.

Arrived home at 5:15pm. Temps: 80. ~3/8 tank gas left.

The way there, GPS took us via Route 84. On the way home, it took us via CT-15 (slower two lane road with more slowing down, hills, etc).

Trip MPG: 29.2 (computer calculated)

Very surprised at that number. I gunned it 7 or 8 times to accelerate onto different highways. Was traveling mostly 75 on the way there. Probably more like 65 on the way home due to the route taken. Was not driving to see how high I could get it. Looked up the number only when I got home. Used cruise control about 75% of the time.

Quite pleased.

Not surprised. My cousin, who owns a 2012 3.8 has reported a corrected MPG of 33 on several trips (one from Seattle to Phoenix and another couple through the mountains of Arizona). He tends to leave the A/C and cruise control on.

Your trip reminds me of when I lived in Dutchess County, NY back in the 70's and used to take a Sunday drive through five states before dark. Can't do that out West.

I found the Genesis has crazy good fuel economy if you're not revving it too high, especially on the highway.

On my 3.8L, I can average as low as 5l per 100 km or 47 MPG (!) which is 4 cylinder territory. I found the best fuel economy is when you're driving 75-85 kmph (46-53mph) which is highway speed in the city for me.

On a 1200+ km trip from Montreal to Toronto, Niagara Falls and back again, I averaged just under 7l per 100 km or ~33 mpg while driving around 115 kmph (71 mph). I used regular gas btw after testing it for myself and finding 0 advantage to using premium (91 oct instead of 85) except for 20 cents a liter less in my pocket.

In the city though, with "spirited" driving I'll get like 11-14 l per 100 so around 17-21 mpg because you can't drive for one minute on a smooth surface without a stop...
