  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

After literally years (starting in the 1st gen days) of considering buying a Genesis - pulled the trigger today on a 2015 3.8L AWD Ultimate Genesis. Empire State Gray/Black interior.

Coming out of a 2005 Cadillac STS, and this vehicle makes my Caddy (going to my son) seem like a Model T in some respects...

Got a very solid deal on a barely used Certified (literally only 500 miles - guy bought it, drove it for a month, upgraded to Equus). I shopped every dealer in the state of Indiana for the last 2 weeks before finding this deal.

Big shout out to Colin Blythe at Evansville, Indiana Hyundai (Internet Sales Mgr) for being great to work with. Recommend giving him a shot if you're within range (i had to drive 3 hours to pick it up).

i'm sure i'll have tons of stupid questions in the near future, but promise that i'll read the manual front to back before doing so! :)

Congrats on the purchase! Reading all those manuals takes a bit of time. I read them sitting in the car listening to the radio...playing with buttons. Hands on learning.

See ya rolling around the Hoosier state sometime.

Way to go, congrats man! You are at least the third person to buy from Colin in Evansville on this forum, agree he was great to work with.

Congrats!

Let me add…that you have excellent taste as far as color and feature choice. You can understand why I think so. Enjoy your ride. I love the way that color sparkles in the daylight.

Congratulations on your new Genesis Sedan! I'm waiting for pictures as well. I'm in a similar boat as you where I waited until the second generation to buy the Genesis. I loved the first generation but the second, for me, is a "must have".

Thanks to everyone here for their welcoming comments...I have this forum to thank for getting me prepared for the purchase and getting what I think was a good deal.

Been reading the manual all morning, and a forum search found me a link to the manual online (easier for me to read on a 27" iMac vs a tiny book they hand you). Does anyone have a link to the 9" Navigation User manual ? couldn't find that...

Next steps for me besides educating myself is:
1) Tint. going with a lighter tint, no darker than a 35 or so. Any advice here on what to go with/what to avoid ?
2) looking into Expel PPF.. another Indy area forum member has me pointed at a good installer .

Be sure to sign up on the “My Hyundai” site where you can register using your VIN and have access to many resources. You’ll be able to get the quick setup guides there but unfortunately there is as I’m aware no place to download the complete navigation manual. I had the complete front up to the mirrors done with the Expel treatment and after many long trips behind big trucks the front still looks like it did when I first picked it up so it’s a wise investment.

Congrats on your new ride. There is no digital format available of the DIS manual. You do know all manuals are also available in your NAV system? It is pretty handy to use.

Great minds think alike, congrats!

The only downside I have experienced so far is that sometimes coming up on cars that are stopped dead when using the SCC it does not slow down until it almost has to slam on the brakes, so be aware! I'm guessing that the SCC AI thinks the stopped car must be parked and not in your lane.

On page 5-68 of the manual it states "The Smart Cruise Control cannot recognize a stopped vehicle"

On Page 5-49 of the manual it also states that "The AEB does not detect stopped objects"

The NHTSA conducts various tests on AEB equipped cars. Some of them being driving toward a stationary object at varying speeds to test the effectiveness of the systems and consequently rate them appropriately. There are legal reasons to state "The AEB does not detect stopped objects" for reasons of culpability. In actuality the Genesis has passed these tests with very high marks with stationary objects though I doubt anyone here would care to replicate the tests for their own satisfaction.

My intended point was that you should not expect SCC to save you from a stopped vehicle. I find that the SCC does not react very proactively to stopped objects - it seems to not react and then ends up slamming on the brakes like AEB. Conversely, it reacts quite smoothly and almost instantly to match speed changes of a car you are following.

Understood.

I hadn't read that about "stopped objects" but you restated exactly what I was saying about the SCC behavior. I also agree that it seems to handle moving traffic very well, albeit a bit slow on the acceleration when starting from a dead stop. The point is, do not fall asleep with the SCC on when you are approaching a car stopped in your lane.

Yes really that’s the point it doesn’t have to be a smooth transition at that point you’re given enough time to brake if not it will and it does.
