  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Well I find the this pen to be too big for a nice small drop. I think I'll go back to my 00000 brush.

On another note, the chip on the Genny is on the rear bumper (crazy spot) and I've put paint on it and let it dry for 24 hrs. When I try to put the clear coat on, it takes the paint off. I'm wondering if I have to try and find some primer to put on first?

I bought the OEM double tipped pen. Haven't used it on my two hood chips yet, but, yes, you're right, that IS a very large tip.

Watching this thread with great interest.

I've bought the OEM pen and used it on two spots, one at the very rear edge of the hood (how in the world ......?) and one on the driver door's edge.
After pumping the pen tip, (primes the felt tip) I got a decent sized drop of paint to dispense. Yes, it is difficult to use sparingly. Maybe next time I'll use a toothpick.
I try the clear coat 24 hours later and, like Sully explained, it seems to be a solvent because all of a sudden the clear is the color of my car's paint......
I also need to learn how to build up the paint to fill in the chip properly before putting on the clear coat. Any ideas? Or is it just a matter of layer after layer after layer ....

I tried adding layers but when I tried to apply another layer, it removed the lower layer. I haven't gotten any primer yet but will. In the meantime the one application seems to hide the chip.

But does it "stand up" above the level of the original finish when you let the light reflect off of it?

I have a 2010 white satin Pearl sedan. I got a OEM touch up Paint pen from the dealer, but it was hard to use and the color seemed dark. I ordered touch up spray paint fro0m Microfinish LLC (they promise to match the OEM color, but it was gray rather than white and they appear unable to match the white ("we've had this problem before" they said).
Has anyone been able to get matching touch up paint for the white, and if so, where did you get it. rdalt34

Sorry it took a while to get back but the one layer of paint seems to be holding up great and most can't see it unless I point it out. I did not put the primer since it is holding up so well and the clear coat just took the paint off! I've put a coat of wax on for the winter and we'll see what happens.

Has anybody tried this Magic Tip Touch Up paint that is listed on Ebay?

While washing her today I found my first chips after a trip to northern NY. I tried a pen type for my other car and found the tip to be too big! What I had been doing is using a 00000 brush and standard Ford touchup paint.

Any recommendations?

I bought mine (Red) from the Dealer when they had a sale for $10. I tried it on a small scratch but the tip is so broad, I couldn't get it to work good at all. I applied a little paint, but it doesn't fill the scratch and blobs over onto the paint. Doesn't look good at all.

DR.COLORCHIP.com- works great. Check out the website. I have a kit for each of my cars. Easy to use too!
