  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

anyone know if you can simply say "call <name>", where <name> is the person in your phone book?

Instead it looks like you have to say the words CALL NAME, then wait to be prompted to say the name in your phonebook. Then you say the name in the book and the call goes through. Would be nice to do that all in one command but I haven't figured out if that is possilbe. Anybody know?

Paul

I just say "call Mary Jane Smith mobile", it says "calling Mary Jane Smith mobile" (in a funny voice!), and connects the call.

You should definitely be able to say "call Mary Jane Smith mobile" with one voice command. You should not have to say "call name" and then say "call Mary Jane Smith mobile" with a second command.

If Mary Jane Smith has both a home and mobile phone number, you can set either as a default number in your auto phonebook. For example if you set Mary Jane Smith's mobile number as the default in the car address book (after downloading your phone book) you can then say "Call Mary Jane Smith". Your system will then dial Mary Jane Smith's mobile number even though you didn't say the word "mobile".

After downloading oyur phonebood, your car may not automatically recognize the default phone numbers in your telephone contacts. You can easily set them in the Genesis.

If you have to go through the steps you mentioned you need to speak to your dealer. Your way, pdauria, is far to time consuming.

Thanks everyone for the replies....looks like i must be doing something wrong... I will give it another try. I have a 2013 Genesis 3.8L w Premium package.

I originally was saying "Call John Smith cell phone" as I figured one should do... Can't recall what the system was saying in reply, but it was either "invalid" or a repeat to "say name." In any event, the call doesnt complete...If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

The voice command feature seems to work fine in all other respects.

I am assuming you have your phonebook synced with the car.

Hit the voice command button, wait for the "bong", and speak. I have noticed that (just like my parents used to tell me), you have to enunciate and speak fairly deliberately.

I have a couple of entries that sound very close to one another (to the car anyways), and if I don't speak clearly, or speak too fast, it will call the wrong one.

Hope this helps. :)

Yes just tried it again and yes the phone is synced properly. All 400+ contacts I have show properly on the screen.

When i say "call john smith home" the verbal response is "command improper in the current mode" which I think means the system does not believe I am in the phone mode, but I am. The prompt on the screen that accompanies the verbal response says "Improper command: Auto preset", which again sounds like something to do with a mode different than phone mode, which I am in.

I tried different names and different speech rates, all the same verbal result. Sometimes the display says "Improper command: Folder" or "Improper command: Track 302"

Very odd, indeed. Did you try a different phone? What phone are you using? Did you try while in different audio sources? It sounds like it is trying to read whatever is plugged into USB? Is the phone plugged into USB? If so it is a data cable or power only cable?

You mentioned you have the Premium package, as I do. I think you can't do this without the Tech package. The system gives you no option except to step through the prompts.

Thanks MichaelOne, that appears to be the case... as i look through this thread of replies, it appears that everyone who can make a call like I wish to all have the tech package. I do not. I just have the premium package.

I tried pairing two other cell phones with the car over the weekend but it made no difference... it's disappointng a car of this standard would miss such a fundamental feature and convenience, but I'm not gonna lose sleep over it...

I have one last call to make to the dealer and I'll advise if I make progress. Their "Genesis Tech" was not there over the weekend and they want me to check back with him today.
