  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2011, 3.8L V6 Genesis Sedan. Currently it has less than 10K miles.

I have really enjoyed playing with the manual mode of the 6 speed transmission. I use it for spirited acceleration, but I also like to downshift and use the engine for braking.

Is using the engine/transmission this way likely to show any specific long term issues?

I realize of course that any hot-dogging is going to increase the normal wear and tear rate of any powertrain components, but wonder if there is any specific issues related to engine braking with the automatic....

Should be no issues. I use mine in snow every winter, and since you can't redline it anyway...
Though you will see a reduction in MPG.

Disclaimer: I'm not a mechanic, I just play one on the Internet.

This place is lousy with internet-trained-mechanics....
I am one too!!
Where did you get your study??
I did post secondary at VW Vortex, and then matriculated to Passatforums, and, did my post-grad work at MAXIMA.ORG and did a fellowship at MDX.ORG

Cheers!

Hee. I went to VWV too! I was on the 6 year plan, degrees in B5.5 and B6.
Then Hyundai made the Genesis at the same time as the CC came out.
And here I am...
