  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Equipment: 2010 2.0T Premium, just turned 11 years old.

I'll start by saying I'm an obsessive record-keeper, which makes this hard to explain. Today I sat down to look at my mileage averages on a spreadsheet I've always kept. In the MPG determination I have always used the mileage from the trip odometer. I also periodically (every few months) note a total odometer reading with a date; today I was comparing those #s to the sums of the trip odometer readings, which of course should technically be equal.

For the first comparison, there was 1 mile difference (8740 vs 8739 at the 8-month mark). Then things basically go to slop - the total odometer #s are consistently higher than the summed trip odometer readings, mostly in the 9-14% range. I'm certain I'm not perfect with my record-keeping, but right now It's 69000 miles vs. 60400. That's on the order of 30 tankfuls; I've missed 2, maybe 3.

This really surprises me; has anyone else noticed this? I'm going to start logging trip odo vs. total odo in real time, and I should see a difference in a tankful or two if the 2 odos are not recording mileage at the same rate.

Thanks -

B
