  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Maybe I'm vain? Or over zealous? I wish the car had a few things...

These are a few things I wish the Genesis had that likely haven't been mentioned before (such as the passenger cooled seat, rear video entertainment, a REAL iPod integration system).. .. Most I can see being added by in a software update.

The OBC display in dash (mpg, range, etc) should be able to show:

  • Navigation directions (simplistic): e.g. directional arrows
  • Radio station information. e.g. Current Mode (XM, CD, HD Radio, Aux, etc), Current Artist, Song Title
  • Incoming Call with Name/Number (name delivery depending on your phonebook entries)

The navigation system should show traffic information REGARDLESS if you have destination entered.

Triple turn signal... just about every foreign car on the market has this.

Bi-xenon headlights. No dinky HID headlight garbage. I hate replacing bulbs. I use my high beams quite often, I live in the country.

When ending a phone call from the bluetooth hands free system, and resuming a audio source, the EQ settings should be the same as they were before. I always experience significantly more bass in audio sources when hanging up the phone; the fix is to adjust the volume slightly. To "re curve" the sound processor.

The phone button on the steering wheel. Should hang up, when pressed. Or answer, when pressed. It does not do these things, unless I'm missing something. Additionally, the phone book from your phone, should transfer, via bluetooth, to the car.

Anyone, feel free to add your odd wish list items.

We all have some opinions of what the Genesis is to Hyundai’s position in the US marketplace; but. What are their objectives and how do they want the dealers to represent the car? So far we really don't know. Is it solely to build Hyundai's reputation here? Is it only to add a few sales in a marketing area they don't presently have? I'm not sure, but as I read of Hyundai's aggressive marketing plans, I can only assume those items you mention and a good bit more will be made available in future models (hopefully soon). No doubt we will see options more geared for certain age and or income groups. Sure makes me anxious to see what they will do with the coupe in regards to some of those items you mentioned.

I haven't used an iPod yet to test out the iPod integration, but I did use an iPhone and it was spotty. It worked, but it was far from stellar with regards to cycling through the songs on the playlist. I'll test a dedicated iPod later today.

There are also some minor annoyances with the navigation: to stop the route, you have to delete the destination. Why there isn't "stop route" button to kill the directions I do not know. I'm used to a Nuvi, so I am comparing it to that. Soon I'll figure out how to do all the things the Nuvi does (effortlessly I might add).

If you want to suspend route guidance, press down on the DIS button and a pop-up menu will offer you that option (I'm pretty certain, anyway...the car is not nearby right now, but the few times I've used the nav system, that's what I've done to stop it). You can turn the audio guidance off and on the same way.

I like the playlist or system info on the DIS and leaving the OBC trip info in the dash. Why cram all that phone and music data in a little blue LCD window when you have an 8-in screen?

A previous thread pointed out stuff like additional storage, lifetime or dual fuel economy etc.

The signal source XM, HD, FM etc displays in the top-right of the DIS. There are serious shortcomings in displaying both artist and song titles. The RDS scroll on the bottom could be larger font. I find the audio volume on bluetooth phone calls to be too low, I always have to turn up the volume.

Another annoyance is when you have weak HD signal. The system switches the channel back and forth between FM and HD, which can be irritating.

When you turn off your car it does not power off your iPod. The iPod pauses but does not power down, so if you leave it plugged in to the interface cable it will drain the iPod battery.

Because I like glancing down and seeing that info on a screen in the dashboard. considering a vast majority of other manufacturers OBC displays do this, no reason Hyundai shouldn't add this. I keep my 8 inch screen on the map display. If I want to glance over at who's playing a song, I don't want to push the corresponding source button and move between screens to do that. An display in the OBC could do that with a touch of a button. Much more efficient.

let me clarify what I meant ... and wanted to see on the OBC:

Song Title: (insert song title here)
Artists : (insert artist here)
Channel/Album (dep. on source): insert appropriate info here)

nothing more.

I forgot to add one more thing.

A DIGITAL SPEEDOMETER. The car should have one.

Took me awhile to find it too. Not quite as convenient as having it it front of you like the BMW OBC display, but it lives on the big screen when you bring up GPS settings. Whole numbers, not tenths, but very accurate. And in my car, rarely agees with the analog speedo.:(

Most navi units do this. It's how they delineate the ETA to your next turn, or end destination.

:)

I wanted a digital one in the center display, where the OBC is. I hate having to read an analog speedo. (sad fact: I cannot read an analog clock. No I'm not stupid, it's a legit impairment. And an analog speedo takes a second to register with me)

I would like to see two more features for the Genesis: 8 way power seat for the front passenger and heated rear seats. Here in Canada winter gets very cold.

It does! My nav screen will show traffic information without a destination. You should check your pop up nav options under traffic and make sure it is clicked on.

You also mentioned full IPOD integration. What do you mean? Is it the shuffle issue or something else? I think the system is a little slow and but is has most of what people want in IPOD control from the command knob. I've tried the BMW system and it doesn't seem any better.

The lack of digital instrumentation is fallout from the late 80s-era "all digital" dashes. People were so tired of "all the little green numbers" and LED bar graphs that they migrated back to plain analog setups. I'll bet the first automaker to try all-digital again will get skewered in the press.

I'll take the Genesis dash over the split-level Civic design any day!

^^ I agree.

I borrowed my friend's Oldsmobile Taranado for a day; the all-digital display was a big headache.

Another thing that gives me a headache is the meteres on the center console like in the Saturn Ion and Toyota Yaris... man that kills my eyes and head.

The GTO can display digital along with analog. It's a feature I like very much. I'm not certain if the Pontiac G8 has the same feature or not.

Caveat: The video is not mine. It is included for educational purposes only. :)[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIeij-LiAdA&feature=related"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIeij-LiAdA&feature=related[/ame]

The biggest things I'm looking forward to and will trade my car in for, is a Fully Featured Passenger Seat including Air-Cooled, AWD and Adaptive Cruise Control

It would also be nice to have Heated Rear Seats and Back Side Window Shades.

The car is close to perfection otherwise, IMHO.

Adaptive cruise = already availalbe in KDM market, easy to transfer over

AWD = Hyundai Officials said it is in consideration

Air cooled passenger seat = its a easy swap so I doubt its going to be THAT hard to do.

Heated rear seats = see above

back sid window shades = i believe its available on the KDM Hyundai Equus already.

John, I remember you from the Subaru forum.
I had an 05 Legacy GT wagon. Great car!
Now I'm a Genesis owner.

You always had very good and educated, well informed opinions on that forum, and I look forward to hearing your input on the Genesis.
My only complaint about the car so far is I'd prefer less understeer.
Other than that, it's a great car to live with on a daily basis.
Cheers
