  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has any one had any problems of varmints (mice/ moles/ voles/ squires/ etc) getting in the HVAC system of their Genesis?
This year I have had one dead mouse that made the car un-drivable because of the smell. That took about 1 and 1/2 months to totally get rid of the mouse and its smell.
Went for about 4 months (checking the cabin filter for evidence every week or 2).
On December 24, 2018 I found a lot of evidence that it or they are back. I found acorns, leaves, the old type of insulation made from string, lent, etc. in the cabin filter. I have no idea where the insulation came from. There was enough to fill one of the plastic grocery bags. I had to vacuum the filter area and remove the blower motor to get it all out.

When I bought mine, the salesman gave me the records of what they had. I'll have to take a picture of the report. It stated there was a huge nest found near the cabin filter. It was an outdoor car in New York before I bought it. I laughed and asked if they looked over it thoroughly. Obvisouly he agreed and said they did. Quite an amusing experience. No issues to date related to it.

The wires in Hyunda/KIA/Genesis have a coating that is made with rice and actually attracts them. LMAO Good luck and hopefully they don't mess your wiring up.

known problem in certain areas of the country, that I have seen reported by many car owners of many makes and models over the years.

There are a few things you can do to keep them out, obviously garaging the car is the first, but if you can't garage the car.

Cotton balls soaked in peppermint oil, placed around the engine bay and even in the HVAC filer area. makes the car smell nice (if you like peppermint) and keeps the critters away.

you might try googling it, there are several solutions, just need to find what works for you..

Thanks Mr Incredible. I did use peppermint oil sprayed around the wheels, in the air intake for the a/c and some under the hood. on the first go around about 4 to 5 months ago. I didn't have any more problems for a few months. I didn't think about using it on an ongoing schedule. I will use it every month for a while and see how it goes.

We have lived here in NC since June 1976 and never had a problem like this before. The G80 sits in a car port beside our 84 500SEL Mercedes which hasn't had any problems in 16 years. We had a 2016 Hyundai Genesis for 18 months with no problems.

I was told that warranty would not cover any damage but my home insurance may. So far, I am on my own with this problem.

Right now, I am more concerned with where the insulation is coming from.

Thanks again
