  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tires are on my 2020 G70 but posted on general discussion area for these tires are used across model lines I think. Noticed yesterday a had some weird cuts/dis-bond areas on front left in the tread area mostly on outer tread area but do have a couple of these cuts in interior tread area too. Tires are OEM sport pilots that came with the 3.3 sport G70 and have 15k miles on them. I’m the original owner. Before I’m asked, yes I watch tire pressures frequently via the TPM’s and when I add air I have a gage that is supposed to be within 1/2 psi for accuracy. Sticker on door says maintain 36psi front and back. Upon first glance you would think tire has been run really low on PSI causing some severe stress on the outer tread area. My car does not pull left or right so front end alignment would seem OK. Wondering if there is any chance Michelin will provide any warranty coverage? It would be pro-rated but might save me some money. Check pictures out and provide any opinions please.

They look physically torn up. Is this one tire or all? I'd check where I drive. Bridge grating or, course gravel?
I see road hazard, not defective tires.

Just one tire. I’d agree with you but this is local city driving, paved roads, no bridge grates or anything unusual. If I hit something, would seem a single cut or tear would happen, not multiple cuts? Next week i’ll go by discount tire and show them the pics to get their opinion. Little apprehensive about driving right now on that tire so will use my second car the next few days. I don’t even drive my Genesis everyday since I also have a Miata which is why I only have 15k miles on my G70 for a 3+ year old car.

This happened to my tires after overheating them. Someone referred to it as chunking. Have you driven it exceptionally hard like at an auto x? Has anybody else driven the car that might have cooked them doing donuts or something?

I've attached a photo of one of the PS4S front tires on my 2019 3.3. I think the tire had about 35k on it when I discovered the gash. I bought the car used w/ about 20k miles but I never did any track time or autox.

For what it is worth, the Michelin Pilot Sport is the highest rated tire in it's class in Consumer Reports.
Just a note, my GV80 came with Michelin Primacy Tour A/S. I have about 10,000 on them and they still look brand new.

Don’t do auto X and the wife is afraid to drive my cars. Not driven hard though Texas has had plenty of +100 degree days but those seem to be gone now. My G70 is not my full time daily driver so it’s not even driven each day, sometimes it spends the week in the garage. I think something weird has gone on within the tire that I had nothing to do with, whether or not Michelin thinks that or my Genesis dealer, who knows? At this point the warranty for our tires shows clearly Michelin does that and not Genesis, just not sure if Genesis will lobby for me with Michelin or if I’m left to fight this battle all on my own? When I talk to Discount tire figure they will now how best to proceed, can they help since the warranty says to contact a Michelin dealer, or will they send me back to Genesis to deal with who may say for me to deal with Michelin? Will see how this goes?

Idk if that heat is enough to cause any damage or not. I would definitely try to get Michelin to cover under warranty. Good luck and keep us posted on the outcome

FYI, discount tire calls this condition ‘chunking’. Exactly what causes it was unknown but they did ask if I drive hard? In my high school days, maybe, just hit 60 so rat racing days are mostly over so told them no. They had to call Michelin to obtain warranty directions. Tread remaining was about 5/32, basically about 25% of OEM warranty was remaining mile wise. Got me $69 off a new tire which at $279 new regular price was better that nothing. $210 + $24 mount/balance + tax out the door. Went ahead and set up to replace the other front tire at the same time so not to have mismatch’s up front. I’ve normally had good luck with Michelin tires on other cars so hopefully this condition was a one-off.

Just letting you know that this topic has been moved out of the community lounge and into the Genesis G70 tire forum.

I'd just have gotten ultra high-performance A/S tires, like the new Michelin Pilot A/S4s, if you want high-performance tires. Those tires are basically shot, and probably 5 years old by now anyway. If you don't need high-performance tires, the next best ones are the Michelin Primacy Tour A/Ss (grand touring A/S category), which are the ones that AWD G70s come with. Or get something similar in a different brand. Good luck.
