If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I love the car but ran across a 2006 M6 with 37K mile for a smokin' deal.

Mine is a 2012 with 17K miles. I submitted to Auto Trader Buys and got a offer of $21.5k .. WTH is with that?

All of the R-Specs in my area (SoCal) are listed for $32K or more.

Any thoughts about the value of my car??

Thanks
John

Just like Car Max, they low ball you to death because they're going to re-sell it, not keep it. Don't waste your time with these places. The only way to get 30K or more for your car is a private sale. I use Auto Trader and the "runs 'til it sells" ads with pictures and that seems to work very well.

M6 sounds good until you need to service or fix it. Any experience with the German "Big 3"? Warranty? Service history?

Obviously the potential buyer was looking for a "smokin' deal" on a 2012 R-Spec at $21.5K. Don't be offended by the offer, he was likely a used dealer just trying to make a living - at your expense.

Exactly same reason why you as a buyer don't go into a dealer telling them you'll pay sticker price.

Find someone with access to Galves not KBB to get a good price.

I just had a dealership tell me they wanted to buy mine for $29k on the spot. I declined.

Your guy was just trolling with a low ball offer.

Thanks folks. $31.5k will be the number if I sell.

Sold 2012 4.6 to CarMax for 26K. Right between private and trade in. Also, willing to bet you got a great discount when buying so I'm figuring they know that too.

It's just a matter of them offering you wholesale, having to do any reconditioning, servicing, etc. plus the overhead they have of keeping the car in stock till it sales and pay all the folks who work at Carmax a salary.
That's the way it is in the business world. Buy wholesale, sale retail.... it's call capitalism...... or do we all want Obama's socialized society? jeezzz

I'm curious who you talking to when discussing the president?

The closest thing to socialism in the US is Sarah Palin's Alaska where every Alaskan gets paid from the oil revenues (not exactly fair since it was the US taxpayer who had paid for Alaska).

Not to mention privatized profits but socialized losses led by the Wall St.

The cost of living in Alaska is quite high, so that money goes to offset that. If you think it is such a great deal, why don't you move to Alaska?. Also, Palin had nothing to do with the fact that Alaskans pay no income tax and actually get money back from the state.

The cost of living in the NYC, DC, SF, etc. metro areas are higher.

And the $$ is not to offset the cost of living, but basically is a bribe to Alaskans.

Also, my point isn't that Palin had anything to do w/ so and so (tho she increase the tax/fee that the oil companies had to pay to the state - resulting in fatter checks to Alaskans) - but the fact that she likes to attack a certain group/people as being socialists, when she comes from the state that is closest to it (Alaska also gets way more $$ from the Federal govt. than it puts in) - but not surprisingly, that connection went over your head.

And I never stated that it was a good deal and your telling me to move there is quite childish (but hardly surprising) and something children or ignoramuses would do.

Exactly like how a certain people were telling others if they didn't like the country (well, the leadership) to get out (or that they were being unpatriotic, if not giving comfort to enemy) - which is really ironic considering the current circumstances.

This thread is about me possibly selling my R-Spec. Would all of you mind leaving the politics at the door?

If I wanted to read political debate I'd go to a political forum

Thank you

John

I'd sell it to car max ... you can see what they are selling a 2012 with 17k on it, and that minus about $2-3K will be what they buy it from you at. $21.5 is to low IMHO. Good luck. Regards.

Thanks, I appreciate the input.

I have been working for 3 yrs. for BMW and unless you have an extended warranty on the M6 you want to buy that has extensive coverage I would be careful, unless you like spending a lot of money on maintenance, tires, repairs. I had to chance to buy a new 5 Series instead of my R Spec, but maintenance and reliability played a big factor in my decision.

I already own the M6 so it's a done deal. I understand that BMW's can be money pits. I've owned a few.

I may keep my R-Spec as my daily driver.
