Check engine light. Can mean many different things, even a loose gas cap. Did you get gas recently? If it is the cap it takes some number of cycles for it to go out again.
There are other potential problems like mis-fires, mixture, etc. If it is not the gas cap, get it scanned by an auto parts store. Many do it for free in hopes of selling you parts.
