  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey Folks,

My 2020 G70 has about 250 miles on it. When I do a cold start these days ( temps are at 30ish) I hear a mildly loud ticking noise from the engine. The noise gradually decreases but is still audible when parked. I checked the engine bay, the ticking changes with RPM. I think it is one of the injectors. any thoughts?

I can take a video and upload it.

normal, theres been a couple threads about it both here and the stinger forum. Ticking is either the injectors or HPFP if the engine is completely warmed. The cold start also brings a fun solid lifter noise for the first couple seconds as well. My wife asked me if something was broken the first time she heard it

I had that cold start lifter explosion with my 2014 Azera for five full years. Who knows if that causes damage but I traded the car with 70K miles and it never gave me any grief.

You're good. Just like @joschneider explained, the high pressure fuel pump and injectors are relatively noisy on our engines, especially during cold starts. Notice that big dense foam block on the driver's side bank? It's for sound deadening of the HPFP. If you pull the engine cover, and look closely under the intake manifold, you'll see even more foam sections for more sound deadening.

We just have noisy engines.

Thanks for your reply guys :)

Got it checked at the Genesis ASS. They said it is the HPFP which is a characteristic sound.

I have 2018 G803.6 turbo 10000 miles in the dealer shop for loud ticking on the start. Lasts about. 45 to 60 sec. then quiets down to low ticking. Dealer said they all do it. Didn’t buy it. It’s now back at dealer. Waiting on parts Factory involved after I gave dealer low marks on their testing etc. didn’t seem to have any idea on cause. Rep out of Indiana went to dealer and didn’t know either and decided to send a timing chain and they told me a bunch of parts??? I gave them my opinion that it was the valves or the tappets. Called the dealer shop foreman for an update on parts delivery. Was told 10 to 12 days. They already had it in their shop 10 days. I had them read me the parts list ordered which they did. Lo and behold the last thing was tappers hmmm! My guess it will be in shop just short of one month. Ya gotta stay on em hard. Gonna have to do a lot better to sell em!
