Minor Scratch Repair

I have a very minor scratch on the lower rear bumper. Does anybody know of a way to minimize or eliminate it?

wash, dry, use a foam pad on your 2000-3000 rpm sander/pollisher with a cutting pollishing liquid formulated to remove scratches. wipe with and clean with micro fiber towel. treat with clear coat sealer, wax - done. or take to a detailer- 150-200.

Some jacka$$ backed into my front bumper while I was parked and left some scuff marks on the clear coat.
Local detail shop buffed it right out in 2min for $40.

A lot of guys scoffed at me for spending $$ on VentureShield protective film, but it has already saved me two trips to the body shop. Too bad we can't avoid idiots in parking lots, but...

I luckily received the Clearshield when my car was delivered...it really pays for itself.

your welcome for the ideas. im going to polish, apply a sealer, on then hi-teck paaste wax should help with the jack-holes n the pking lots. i just loathe parking lots!!!!!

I want to go postal! I walked out of the hospital where I work on Sunday morning and some a__hole had keyed my two week old Genesis! It looks like the marks are all the way down to the metal. These are more than minor scratches. Any ideas? All help will be greatly appreciated. I signed on for all of the extended warranties and insurance coverages, but I do not think that Hyundai has coverage for the finish of the car like I had with my Mercedes previously. I will check though...I was contemplating reporting a claim to my insurance company but I have a $500 deductible for comp!

Last year, while returning to Florida from Phoenix, I stopped off at a motel, and while offloading my luggage, I noticed that the right front bumper had a large black scrub mark on it. about six square inches. Took a chance and got my bottle of polish out, and polished it out. Had to rub hard, and took me about 10 minutes, but it rubbed out.

Scratches are different. If a scratch is deeper than the clearcoat, you may be able to minimize it, but you will not be able to get rid of it.

If you have a deep gouge all the way across your car you might have more damage than just $500 bucks. It also depends on what color car you have. I had a dent on my right front fender that needed to be banged out as well as painted. They had to paint my fender and front door to get the right blend...

You might need more than just your scratch to be painted. I'm not a mechanic by any means and have no real knowledge of paint automobiles but I suspect you will spend more than $500 if it is really bad.

True. Any panel effected needs to be completely painted. Trying to match just a portion never works well and overspray causes blend in issues. It isn't something you do on a newer car...though I've done it on older cars that had a lot of scratches and minor dents.

You really have two choices.

1. Fill the scratch with a matching paint and buff and polish. This doesn't fix the problem but it makes it less noticeable and stops it from rusting.

2. Repaint all panels.

P.S. They sell colored waxes that will fill deep scratches and disguise them a little but I don't have confidence these will seal well enough to stop rust.

I have had luck with Meguiars Scratch X. You can find it at most auto parts stores and Warmart. Works with minor scratches. It just knocks down the sharp edges of the scratch so that they do not reflect light. If the scratch is deep (catch with finger nail) might want to take it to a pro.

I wish our Genesis' came with the self healing paint that Nissan offers.
Not sure how effective it is though.
