If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I like to drive with the moonroof open and I slide the sunshade back so I can open the moonroof. I can slide the sunshade back just a little before it sticks and then I have to pull very hard on it to slide it back further. It sometimes takes both hands to slide it back.

I would just leave the sunshade open all the time but my wife likes driving with the sunshade closed.

I spoke with the dealer and was told it would cost around $2K to replace the entire moonroof track and they can't promise if the sunshade will slide back any easier once the track is replaced. Can't just replace the sunshade.

The car is under warranty.

Has anyone had a similiar experience with their moonroof sunshade?

This SEEMS to be a good example of the nasty loopholes in the Hyundai 5 year (cough) warranty. "Adjustments" are only covered for one year.

This is also an item that Lexus and the other luxobox makers would replace under warranty without blinking an eye. If Hyundai wants buyers to think that Equus and Genesis are premium products, they need to provide premium coverage and service. I'm beginning to regret not getting an ES 350.

IMO this is not an adjustment ie, alignment, fixing a rattle, loose trim. This is a part that should be covered under the 60,000 mile warranty.

The OP implies that dealer says it is not covered since it costs 2k. Only the OP knows the facts of this case.

I apologize if I have confused you.

A Hyundai service corporate rep was at my dealer when I brought it in for the sticky sunshade and he did look at it and stated that it is sticking and difficult to slide back.

The dealer service manager is currently talking to Hyundai corporate about whether a sticky moonroof track can be replaced under warranty and if there is something else they can try to fix it.

The dealer service manager is not happy about possibly performing a 2K fix under warranty with the possibility it will not be fixed.

.

You are the customer and you should be satisfied. The Service Manager is wrong to even express his concern. He should have told you he was researching to find the cause and whatever it takes that they would fix the problem under warranty. No mention of cost should have been made. That Service Manager needs some customer service/relations training.

No doubt!

After three weeks I spoke with the service manager today. He told me the reason he told me the repair would cost $2K is because of the high cost he needs approval from Hyundai corporate to replace the moon roof rack. It can take a while to get approval and he wanted to let me know the reason why it can take a while.

He asked me if he could look at the sunshade. He sat in the car and tried to pull the sunshade back but got stuck twice while doing so. He told me it is definitely sticking and can see why I would like it fixed.

He is still waiting for corporate to approve or deny the replacing of the moon roof rack or give him other possible fixes.

He thinks it may not get approved because it is a lot of money and there is no guarantee it will work.

He told me that if it doesn't get approved, I would be given $2K of credit if I trade in my 2010 4.6 for a newer model.

He told me to give him another couple of weeks and he should have an answer from corporate concerning the approval of replacing the moon roof rack and also will have trade in options for me if i tis not approved.

I really don't want to do a trade in but didn't want to argue about this with him.

I know the general manager and will discuss this with him after I hear if Corporate approves the fix of replacing the moon roof rack.

Can Hyundai decide not to replace the moon roof rack (the only fix for the sticky sunshade which was suggested by them) even though the car is under warranty and further tell me my only other option is to get some credit for a trade in?

Waiting weeks for an answer is unacceptable. Get the name and number of the person they are talking to at hyundai and call them yourself. If they will not give the person's name and phone phone to you, then call the Hyundai territory office and ask to speak with the person that can authorize the repair and tell them about the situtation. Don't get put on the back burner. You are driving a 40,000 dollar car that you purchased from Hyundai. You deserve respect.

I'll bump this to stress to the OP that they may be viewing this problem as not covered beyond one year. Still, you should get on the horn with Hyundai pronto.

I actually had this problem when I bought he car. I noticed it about a month after I bought the car and discussed it with the service department and was told to wait till my first oil change and it should become easy to slide by then.

At first oil change, six months later, it was still difficult to slide. The service rep put some lubricant on the moon roof track and told me it slides much easier. It did slide easier and it seemed to fix the problem.

I didn't open the sunshade for the next few months because of the winter weather. Once it started getting warmer i tried opening he sunshade but it started sticking.

I brought the car to the dealer (was time for another oil change, car now one year old) and they told me they would lubricate it again. They lubricated it but it was still sticking.

They told me they didn't know what to do and they would contact Hyundai corporate.

Hyundai corporate told them about replacing the moon rack fix ( three months ago) and that is where I am today.

After another month I received a call from the Service Manager who told me he would like to replace just the sunshade instead of the entire moonroof track and scheduled an appointment for next Tuesday.

He asked me "If the sunshade is not available in cashmere would I mind a different color?".

I told him "Your are kidding me, right?"

I proposed this same fix many months ago but was told you had to replace the entire moonroof track.

They have never done this fix before so it should be interesting.

Where do you live at in Florida? I hope it's not the same dealer I go to. I'm sorry you are having to go through all of this, and that's ridiculous how they would even ask you if you wanted the sun shade in another color.

From Winter Park.

Dropped the car off at the dealer this afternoon.

Got a 2012 Genesis 4.6 loaner.

Just drove it home and noticed a few differences from my 2010 4.6. The Michelin tires ride a lot nicer and are much quieter than the Dunlops. Don't care much for the DISP and TRIP button graphical displays. Looks a little tacky. The brakes are better. The transmission is definitely different. Don't like the look of the moonroof wind deflector.

In the morning they will take the moonroof apart and replace the sunshade.

I hope it fixes the problem.
