More Derogatory Ads...

Ads like this really put me, a strong egotistical male who has a hot, burning passion for his wife, on EDGE...especially when my wife see's things like this on my computer screen.

Luckily enough, she knows that I only have enough passion for one woman and that I will always take part in our "Marital Fruit Basket..." and not someone else's!(Rick and Bubba)

What will it take to remove such sexual ads?

What makes it even worse is when I log on to Genesisowners.com first thing in the morning here at work and my cube-mates see a 13 year old lying half naked with her butt stuck in the air as if she is waiting for something special from behind...and her 14 year old best friend right next to her with her TA-TAS about to pop out.

Sorry to disappoint...Firefox is the only approved web browser that we can use here at ULA.

Our IT dept is amazing and they only give us the best of the best...how ads like these pass through...Ill never know.

When an ad does not make it through you will see in big red letters ACCESS DENIED where the ad was supposed to be.

I've never seen an add like that here on Genesis Owners. I religiously use ccleaner every couple of weeks to keep the computer clean. Maybe someone in your office is using your computer to check out some booty?

Run a deep clean and see if they pop up anymore. Sometimes key words in the thread will determines what ads come up.

For instance, when browsing the "Front AC seat is Anemic" I get an ad for Trane Air Conditioning Units.

OK so you're running Firefox, but are you using the adblock add-in? Seriously, you will never see any of these ads if you install it.

I have never seen an ad close to what your attachment shows. I run plain old Internet Explorer with pop-up blocker.

I haven't seen that ad on this forum either, but I don't exactly understand why it would be considered derogatory. But I am not an Islamic cleric, nor am I a member of the Taliban, and I don't surf the internet at work (except for specific technical sites I need), so I don't worry about those type of things.

Hey Mark...to keep it simple, all of us are on a different walk in life. What I see as offensive, you may see as normal.

I was born and raised in a Christian home. Modesty has played a huge role in our family as well as my wife's family and seeing beautiful young women with their boobs and belly buttons hanging out...as well as their thongs, come across to me, as it would for any other normal male, as a temptation.

We believe in the Bible and to be more specific....the book of Mark 9:47 which I quote, "And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell,"

Not that I would but I dont want to pluck my eyes out....HA!

I'm not saying this to "throw" my religion on you or anybody or to be one of those who tries to be "politically correct..." I have a jealous wife and I am a jealous husband. I don't want another man looking at my wife and thinking dirty thoughts. So the question is: How can I, as head of the household, let my wife or daughter wear skimpy clothing knowing good and well someone elses husband is checking them out like an Everlasting Gobstopper at the candy store(Charlie and the Cholcolate Factory)? The answer, have the dress modestly.

Anywho, sorry to rant like that...its nothing agaist you Mark...at all.

I respect everybody's opinions and only wish the same for mine.

You may be thinking...well how can PING surf the web without seeing this kind of stuff...well, its difficult but I work my way around it.

Also, here at "work" we do things differently than most businesses. Our work HAS TO BE PERFECT...without question! With each launch costing MILLIONS and national security at our fingertips, as well as everybody's tax money, we have no choice but to offer "Perfect Product Delivery!" So in order for that to happen, ULA as a company allows us to take breaks whenever we wish. Those who smoke, smoke when they want. I dont smoke, so I keep a check on this website. Heck, we even have our very own Subway. Yes, our internet usage is monitored but only 1 person has been fired in the 13 years the plant has been opened...and that was because of porn. Go figure.

Anywho, enough of that. Love you guys

I think the point here is, that there are no shortage of ads in the world. If it is possible to filter the ads to be less offensive (or derogatory to women in this case), then why not do so?

There are many things in this world that are intentionally offensive, but I wouldn't say that ad was one of them--either on the part of the advertiser or this site. More likely "unintentionally offensive."

Misogynistic or sexist would probably be better descriptors.

With that said, even though I've seen far worse ads and I'm not offended by the ad in question, I'd say it's in poor taste and probably isn't an effective ad considering the subject matter and demographic of this site.

Second, consider that many sites use ad networks which they don't have control over and may not have any specific content or veto rights.

Also, it could be that there is some malware going on that may hijack or re-direct legitimate ad banners with other content.

Finally, while ad and pop-up blockers are a fact of life these days, they do tend to force content providers to have to come up with more intrusive or obnoxious ways to force people to view advertising to help pay the bills. So for this site, I hope that anyone who finds this service to be helpful will become a paid member so that Sal doesn't have to serve up network ads.

Perhaps, but one would assume that those depicted in the photos signed a model release and may have even been paid for the pictures. So sometimes it is tricky about who is being harmed here.

Not at all. I even said that I thought the ad was in poor taste.

Rather, if we take Ping's definition at face value, I don't think the use of derogatory as meaning 'intentionally offensive' is as appropriate as the other terms. You could easily substitute your terms in place too, since I think the concern is more philosophical or moral than explicit. Certainly, I don't think the advertiser intentionally set out to offend anyone. Instead, they were hoping to get someone who was lured by the image and what it offered to buy their service.
