  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

This article, in French but translation available, says after catalytic converters and alloy (mag) wheels the next theft target is wing mirrors from high end cars. That means those with cameras and technology embedded and can be resold, perhaps to the original victim. It claims the events are in Manhattan, as the concentration of expensive vehicles and opportunity for exposed vehicles allows the opportunity.

sounds strange, as the mirrors are mounted/bolted from the inside of the door, so they would have to get into the car to remove the mirror, breaking it off would make it unsellable.

and if they are already in the car, they might as well steal the whole thing.

It’s a farce, that’s why it is in French.

It was just entertainment for me. I think you may be true that they traffic in "Look what the Yanquis deal with now" The readership is the French reading middle class. Easily entertained/shocked.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Apart from stealing stuff from cars, are newer cars still stolen much anymore? It seems the tech would make it much more difficult.

The pro will still get it. They do have to disconnect the tracking devices.

The pro will only steal what he can sell. There is a rather small market for Genesis mirrors, but a pretty good market for Corolla and Altima parts.

Saw this the other day. I'm not sure how many people have access to this kinda tech, but alarming that it exists nonetheless. I'd imagine that the well practiced wouldn't have a hard time disabling the GPS systems

Someone on this site ask how to disable the LTE on the Genesis. I wonder if he wanted to disable the LTE because that would also disable tracking of the car.

Years ago, while I was living in NY (Brooklyn), my mirror was stolen. Of course I went to a junk yard to buy a replacement. I don't remember the car I was driving at the time, but the glass mirror could be popped out of the body. I was told this was a common occurrence.
