  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does the average mpg calculation reset/start over every time you fill the tank? In my Volvo, the average is a continual recalculation to show what your overall average mpg has been. In the Genesis, I never know what average I'm seeing. It can show 29.2 on a trip, then I stop for gas and when I start the engine it shows 9.1. Then it quickly gets back to much higher numbers after a several highway miles. When I received a J D Power questionnaire and one of the questions was avg mpg, I realized I don't have a clue what it is.

Time to bust out the calculator on your cell:D

The Average Fuel Consumption calcualtes mpg (or litres/100km here in Canada) continuously until you reset it by bringing up the display and holding the "Display" button (or Reset on earlier models) down for a few seconds. The Instant mpg will show really bad numbers if you are idling or have been drag racing :D, but that shouldn't change the average reading too much.

Yes, it gets set automatically when you fill your tank, or you can manually reset it as explained above (however, you cannot prevent reset when gas tank is filled).

They must not think we are smart enought to know how to reset it. Also on my 2009 the Trip odometer only goes to 999 miles and then starts over.Evey other car I have I use Trip 2 to keep track of milage between oil changes.

I mentioned that exact issue (using it to keep track of oil changes) to John Krafcik (HMA CEO) during a chat session in 2009 (Hyundai Think Tank), and he said "Never thought of that." Not sure if that means it will be changed in next major Genesis overhaul or not. I suspect that part of the reason is that one cannot drive more than 999 miles in Korea for one trip (aside for oil change issue).

This must be a new (newer?) feature since on my 2009 it definitely did not automaticly reset when the tank was filled, only on manual reset.

On 2009 US model it resets automatically when you fill with gas (MPG calc, not trip odometer). Maybe Canadain model is different.

This type of mpg calculation is useless to me. It's only valid for a point in time of a few hundred miles. I'm not going to manually track my mpg or try to use some extra app so I guess the true mpg will always be unknown.

It's not that difficult or time consuming to do... just add this site on your phone, and do it from the pump - takes 30 seconds:

You'll need to put your car on there, of course. Here's mine:
