  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does anyone know when we can expect the pricing and fuel efficiency numbers? I really have my heart set on the V8 but I am concerned that the $/hp may not be reasonable in comparison to the already pretty sufficient 6er.

Kinda what I was thinking. I won't be able to justify $100/additional pony.

There are probably many others that will reach the same conclusion if the price approaches the $40K level. IMO, Hyundai must find a way to keep the price of the V8 in the mid-thirties if it hopes to be competitive with the V8 versions of the Pontiac G8 and Dodge Charger.

The car might have a chance of success in the mid-thirties; but venturing into the $40K level with an unproven, first year model carrying the Hyundai nameplate could be too large a gulp for the buying public to swallow.

I doubt that fuel economy will be much different than the competition. Variable direct injection, VVT, and a properly geared 6spd transmission should allow it to be relatively thrifty for a V8 powered car.

In the past, MSRP has only been a number for Hyundai with most of the lineup selling at less than MSRP in real world transactions. It remains to be seen if that is the case with the new car. If the car is to be successful, the public must perceive it as a good value rather than just a more expensive luxurious offering from Hyundai.

Agreed. The G8 is off to a very nice start.. Though not exactly the most luxurious vehicle. The Charger will be even less so.. The Genesis is a different kind of car than these. So it just might fare well against them...

Hello,

This is my first post. I am a newb. I have been fascinated with the Genesis since the Super Bowl commercial. I spend way too much time researching it! I am currently in the market for a new car and am really struggling with my decision. I have never been one to buy brand new cars but this Genesis has me thinking about taking the plunge, if I can be patient long enough. It will either be the Genesis, 2006 Lexus GS350, or the 2006 Infiniti M35.

Anyway, I found this thread regarding pricing and I thought I might ad the attached for your review. It comes from autospies.com.

Thank you

Welcome GenFan! Thank you for signing up! I'll post pictures of the documents you're speaking of (below). Otherwise, amongst the cars you listed... The Lexus GS rides softer than the M35. They're both VERY nice cars! I've researched them both. I can see how tempting the Genesis could be for you. It's definitely a competitor of the M35 and GS350.

Some interesting info there...especially the member comments posted concerning the pricing. In the back of my mind, I have always been afraid this was going to happen. From the beginning, I have felt that the Genesis might have a chance if the pricing for the loaded version could be held to the mid-thirties. Psychologically, the perceived difference between $35K and $40K is more than $5K for the average buyer. This perception coupled with the Hyundai name tag doesn't bode well for the Genesis, IMO. However, the real world price will probably be the deciding factor. If discounts of 10% from MSRP prove to be the norm, the Genesis will be a viable option to some of its competitors.

I think more often than not, Hyundais are sold at a discount. It happens even with the Veracruz.. I bet we'll see the V8 Genesis being purchased for under $40k...

I certainly hope you are correct and over enthusiastic dealerships don't hamper the introductory effort.

When the 04 GTO was introduced in the states, the dealerships mistakenly thought that buyers would flock to the GTO nameplate so they stubbornly held to the MSRP until the cars began to back up on the lots. In the early months some dealers even added "market adjustment" to the MSRP. The early lack of sales was picked up by the automotive magazines and the car developed a stigma as a "sales failure" which was never totally overcome.

To a lesser degree, the same thing is happening at some dealerships with the Pontiac G8. I have seen numerous postings where some dealers (not all) are adding a "market adjustment" to the MSRP...some as much as $10K over MSRP.

Some dealerships just don't seem to realize that potential customers who have been run away by overpricing seldom return for a second look.

I can't believe dealerships got away with grossly overpricing the PT Cruiser. To me, it's one of the vehicles I've ever seen. Just my opinion, however. But to someone who's very NOT attracted to that car - it's mind boggling how it could have been sold for such much over invoice...

I don't think Hyundai is going to have any market adjustments with the Genesis. If anything, they're going to sell it at a discount. Unless it takes off like wildfire. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see...

My first post. I'm liking this car, but anxious to see it in real life. This may be my first foray into a the luxury car market. I've also been interested in Acura TSX and TL.

Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up..

This is exactly what Hyundai is trying to do. Allow people who wouldn't normally buy a luxury car because of the ridiculous price - to own one. The Genesis is going to be a more powerful and luxurious car than the Acura TSX and TL. I hope you like what you see when you see it in person...

bnhbutts--I too thought about the Acura TL, but I didn't want front wheel drive. The Lexus GS 350 and Infiniti M35 might be more similar to coming Genesis but more expensive. If they added SH-AWD to the TL I might consider it.

Where's the promised "smart cruise control"? I have adaptive cruise on my current car and it is great for long commutes.

It is rumorred to be the part of an expensive option package called 'DIS' on the top model.

It appears that a lot of the "Gee Whiz" stuff is included in the extra cost technology package. I have also heard (or read) somewhere that the smart cruise is included in the Driver Information Systerm (DIS).

Yeah, and I heard the rumor that there are 2 different grade of Lexicon audio. The better one with more speakers are rumorred to be included in the expensive option package as well.

According to the Korean Brochure I've seen a while back, the base 3.3Liter sedan have pretty much everything as option, and didn't include much as standard.

My current car is a TL and even with 258hp I get noticeable torque steer. Otherwise a very nice car but I will be giving the Genesis V8 a close look. With 117 more hp, rear drive and more available features it should be an awesome car. The TL is also getting a full re-make for 09 but so far not much solid info on what the new specs will be.
