Mud guards

Hi: I just got my 2012 3.8 Tech Titanium/Black. I want to put some cool mud guards on. Should I use the OEM for 2012, or is there a better looking aftermarket product available.

I just bought the stock ones, but haven't put them on yet. Why bother with any other brands?

Suggest you consider getting OEM chrome side trim if you really want the sides of your car to pop. Check out my thread on that. Cost about $150 from Sherwood Automotive. Easy to install yourself in under an hour.

I'd been looking for my 2012 Genny Sedan, so I priced them at that site (above) and wow, they charge a lot for shipping. And I'll never install anything from "JC Whitney" on my Genny....(they looked bad)...

So I called my local Hyundai dealer parts guy I know, and the price for the front and rear flaps are $40 and $50 respectively. But he's pricing them at $25.55 and $37.67 (plus tax). SO I ordered a pair for the front and rear...should be in Monday.

That's a good price. We live in a SMALL town in SE AZ so any discount I can get is a good one!

The trick is to ask for employee price and tell them you can just as well get them on eBay. Say it nicely with a smile.Bring along the eBay ad too.

I installed the OEM mudguards. This is my one area of complaint with Hyundai and the Genesis. I had a Toyota Camry in Gold (beautiful car) and the mud guards were colored matched. Looked awesome.

I spend twice as much on a car and the only mudguards are black plastic?

I suppose you could get some Rustoleum plastic paint and try to match 'em. I have a white Genny, so the black ones will look OK..we have a white Envoy as well with black guards...would certainly be better if they were molded in the color you want, but Hyundai keeps prices LOW. IMHO these should be STANDARD or an option on a luxury car....

I got my flaps a few days ago but since it appears I'll have to remove the rear tires to mount those, I won't get 'em on til this weekend.

My only problem was getting some of the plastic "fake screws" out.

And I agree, QR, that Hyundai should make color matched mudguards (much less the cheap OEM plastic ones) standard on a premium car. Hear that Hyundai?!?!?

well I figured I could just turn the wheel left or right to allow access to the fender well for front....but you can install the flaps on the REAR without removing the tires...that's pretty close clearance there.... LoL

ATTENTION: The mud flaps (ie 'guards") I received from Hyundai at the dealer do NOT fit the car. The counter guy (not my usual friend) who ordered them looked up the following numbers in "The Catalog"... They are INCORRECT and will NOT fit the 2012 Sedan (2010 yes):

REAR: 08460-3M500
FRONT: 08460-3M000

The correct parts, as IDENTIFIED by using the "ARC" (Accesory and Resource Center), a website for DEALER parts folks to find the right accessory part numbers are:

FRONT: 3MF46AC000
REAR: 3MF4AC100

This causes confusion among parts counter people as they are accustomed to just 'looking up parts in the catalog' and ordering them. My friend was working this morning at the local dealer when I showed up to get the oil and filter changed, and he told me of the problem. ALso, as of now, Hyundai does NOT sell or have any mud guards for the Genesis Coupe. If the parts guy looks up mud guards to order, he'll get the wrong part number for the sedan.

I got $16 back. So my price does appear to be in line with what others have reported.

I got the correct mud guards for my Genesis, and the dealer installed them for FREE during my free oil change last weekend. Black on white care look OK, band they are really fairly small, but should keep the stones etc at bay. I 'll post a pic when I get one.

Lucky guy. I just took my '10 4.6 w/tech in for a trim issue on the passenger side front and cabin fan noise issue. Priced the front and rear at $36 and $ 46 roughly....then told me $85 to install as they had to take off the wheels and use a template to put them on. I didn't want to start an argument with the service coordinator (not a tech/mechanic) about how he was wrong with the wheel removal and 'template' statement so I just told him I'd skip them for now. The dealership is literally right next door to my work and I hope to develop a good relationship with them....but I've done biz with another outlet of theirs and came away very unimpressed. Funny too because others on here have had good luck with this dealer group Morrie's. Me and a few friends, not so much. Oh well, we'll see how they do with the first oil change and 15K maintenance.

$68 + $11 shipping on ebay for the fronts and rears. Will be here next week and I'll install them myself WITHOUT having to remove the wheels or use a template.

If you have 2012 model, double, triple check the part numbers!

I had to make 3 trips to my dealer to get it right. They 'thought' they had front ones in stock, ordered the rear ones via phone. Trip 1, rear came in, but fronts were not in, system report error. Ordered the front flaps. Trip 2, they have front and rear, so I was willing to pay the $60 they wanted to install them. Wait in waiting area, tech comes back... sorry, wrong flaps, 2012 are different. Killing time, picked up OEM floor mats, and they vacuumed the car, installed the floor mats. Get a call later in the week, got the right part numbers, cross shipped to wrong location. Also, 2012 flaps are $20 cheaper combined than pre 2012 flaps. Trip 3, parts/service was embarrased, free install, and refunded my cost for the flaps. Net cost $0.

Took 2 weeks of total time to get them, but at least it was free. I can't remember the last time I got anything 'free' from a dealer due to their own mess up. Additionally, very impressed with OEM all weather mats, they are not some cheap rubber mats, but actual made in USA Weather Tech mats made for Hyundai with Genesis logo.

Lastly, as for someone earlier mentioning mud guards not being car color... 100k Audi/BMW get non body matching color black mud guards as well Every German car I've owned, mud guards were black. One time I did have them get painted, but paint doesn't stick well plasticky rubber they use for mud guards. After one winter, they looked terrible from paint chips.

Glad it worked out for you Geoffc, unfortunately I've never had much luck with dealerships. We'll see how they do with the trim replacement piece I went in for last week....which I was told would be in by this Tuesday. Haven't called yet, going to wait and see how long it takes them.

So damn easy. Took me 20 minutes to put on all 4 and a good 5 of that was pulling out the Genny from the garage and backing it in to do the other side (tight fit on the wall side of my garage). Fronts are easy, just turn the wheels and you have plenty of room. I did have to use a pliers holding a philips bit on the rear final two screws, but that wasn't tough at all. "Take the wheels off and use a template" my arse, this dealership is losing cred with me right away. Just sucks they are literally right next to my office.
