  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

10/18/2011 Hail storm in middle TN.

The balls of ice were sometimes near tennis ball size for about 10 minutes. I was at work with the car in the parking lot when it happened. Now my 2010 yellow 3.8 track A/T Genesis Coupe w/12k miles on it looks like someone went around beating it with a hammer. I know insurance will fix it, but in my eyes it will never be the same again. I have driven it hard at times, but I have waxed it every season, washed it every week or more, and kept it in the garage at night. This really sucks. I am 52 years old, and this was my first hot rod. Now this happens.....Oh well...thanks for letting me vent!

I can feel your pain. Some paintless dent pullers do a good job. Hood and deck lid should be replaced and painted. fenders take work. Rear quarters man need to show some pictures. I leave mine in the garage and only get it out on nice days. I drive my beater most of the time. Sorry for your luck.

Tennis size hail.....I don't know how effective a paintless dent puller will be.....

Sorry about the damage...got any pics???

On a positive note, "Myth Busters" did a segment on a Golf Ball like dimpled car and found that it got better MPG than a smooth counterpart. :p

Hail Damage sucks, and I know how you feel....I am 45, been there and done that.....and you are right....it will never be the same..especially in your mind:(

Here is a picture of the hail that got my car!

Well here we go again. Before I could get the hail damage fixed, a driver on a cell phone decided to exit the freeway from the 2nd lane in from the ramp. The car in front of me barely missed the guy. and went into the grass. I went into the gravel right before the exit. The Genesis Coupe is so low to the ground that the plastic panels below the nose were torn off. These are the panels that are part of the wheel well liners. It didn't look too bad. The estimate was about $4k to fix it and the hail damage together.

The body shop owner became infatuated with the car during the estimate process. He could fix the car for himself cheaper than for me to do it. I ended up selling it to him at a price that didn't hurt me at all and he can fix all the stuff for about $1k on his dollar. He is tickled with the car. Now I got to figure out what color to buy for a replacement or if I want to kick the hotrod habit for this old man. "Second Childhood" was the car's name. It lasted 14 months for me.
