My Genny is DEAD!

I guess she is four years old now and it finally got cold here last night, but what a shocker when I tried to unlock the door with no response. I used the manual key to find her dead as a door nail...nothing, nada, not even a light on the dash.. It even took multiple tries to jump start. By the way, the jumper posts are in the front, right side, under a cover. Hoping its only a dead battery.

Any chance your trunk lid was opened accidentally? Had that happen twice.

If the car was parked for a day or two after last use it is probably the trunk lid.

After you recharge the battery, make sure the trunk lid closes completely and the light is off. You can check it by opening the hatch in the middle of the back seat.

I've done it two times now. If there is a next time I will wire a manual light switch into the trunk. Apparently that lamp switch is very sensitive and the trunk lid needs to be closed smartly.

Good luck. You can also jump the battery sitting in the trunk. Two options.

My Genesis turned 4 years old 4 days ago. I changed the battery 2 months ago, just as a PM.

I hate to admit it but I did the same thing once. (the trunk).

So...I jumped her and after idling a long time and driving some (to the local Advance Auto), the battery was charged. Advance Auto tested the battery (still OE) and found it to be "good" with 705 CCA. "No need to replace" the guy said.

I'll take your advise and check the trunk light. Something had to drag her down.

Go to Walmart and get a new battery. Same manufacturer as the dealer and auto part stores, cheaper and better warranty. Mine died a few months ago. Getting stuck is not worth the risk.

I had this happen on my Odyssey. The battery kept draining over a period of 36-48 hours and with a tester I isolated the drain to the back hatch. It appeared to close, no lights on etc... but the sensor was showing it open which then caused the computer to be constantly running, or something to that effect, it's been a few years.

Me too! I suspect it was the key fob in my watch pocket, the trunk button got pushed when I was getting out of the vehicle, and I didn't notice.

Most modern vehicles know you have left a "light" on and shut them off after a certain amount of time. The vehicle Body Control Module (BCM) drives the lights not a mechanical switch.

Whether it is the trunk light or the BCM isn't really the issue. The problem is the trunk latch is sensitive enough that, unless closed with gusto, doesn't switch something off and kills the battery. Really dumb engineering...and yes, there would have to be some sort of switch to tell the BCM that the trunk is open/shut.
