My loaner G80 makes my Hyundai Genesis seem like a sloth!

Recently took my '15 Hyundai Genesis into the dealership (again!) and got a '18 Genesis G80 loaner. Same engine (3.8), same drivetrain, same everything... Yet this loaner feels like it will run circles around mine. So frustrating. The throttle response, the chassis, the transmission. Even in ECO mode the G80 feels so much more alive and willing to GO than mine does in SPORT. Now I don't want mine back.

I had a 2016 Genesis base. Loved it. Traded it for a 2018 G80 base. And as you said, it is a different car.
More power, more responsive, but also lower MPG. The 2016 was rated at 29 MPG HWY but I could get
30 MPG HWY. These are calculated, not what the car says. The 2018 gets 27 MPG HWY (best so far).
I am not complaining, the extra power far out-weighs the lower MPG.
Something was re tuned but I don't know what. I do think it was in the engine and not the transmission.

Engine is rated the same, its all in the tuning on how it feels. The trans shifts are much faster compared to the Gen1 and throttle response is remapped for sure.

Keep in mind that Loaners & Demo cars tend to be driven "enthusiastically" (drive it like you stole it syndrome) and all Series II Genesis have an engine and transmission ECU that has a 'learning' function. If you drive it hard it will remember and shift down faster and give more responsive throttle response. I grant you the 2018 cars do have some changes in ECU mapping, but I have also noticed my 2015 feels far more spirited after some more aggressive driving.

gee thanks. I've done that, and have been told that those benefits are for Genesis customers only.

Well it is not a guarantee but it can’t hurt to ask especially if you talk to sales also and convince them you are seriously considering one. It’s not like you’re demanding it, you just want to let them know it might be in their own best interest, a little finesse. Of course if they’re short on loaners and they are not a big Genesis dealer, then there is really nothing they can do.

I talked to my service rep, and I was just saying how we Hyundai owners gets shafted, and next two times I have visited the dealership they given me brand new g80s as loaners.
