  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Well, after carefully debating whether I should get a separate set of snow tires/wheels for my Genesis or not, I decided to spend a bit more and just get a second vehicle. Since getting the Genesis I've missed the utility of my Pilot. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my Genesis, but it's nice to have a vehicle where I can take the dogs for a ride without worrying that they'll damage the leather, or borrowing my better half's car every time I need to haul something large. Plus, this way I don't have to worry about pitting the paint on the Genesis due to all the sand they put on the roads up here when it snows. :)

Any way, here are a couple quick and dirty shots of the RR for those interested. It's a 2001 Bonatti Grey 4.6 SE w/ 105k miles. I paid $6400 including sales tax, which was an absolute bargain IMO. As you can see, the interior is pretty dirty/dusty and the paint has some scratches (many of which I've since been able to buff out). I'll be sure to post some pics once she's all clean and waxed up for the winter.

Congrats, guess this proves you always secretly wanted the 4.6L :D

:D I guess so!

Seriously though, the OLD V8 in the RR makes the Genesis' 3.8l V6 seem like a supercar, both in terms of sound and acceleration. Although Land Rover made several changes to the GM-designed engine over the years (including increased displacement from 4.0 to 4.6 liters), the basic engine architecture dates back to 1961!!!

The Land Rover looks great! Do post the newest pictures when you get a moment. It looks like you got a great deal! The interior looks very good to me..

Do you really get snow in Nevada?

Ummm, yes! All of Nevada is not like Vegas. ;) Reno's weather is actually a lot like Salt Lake City or Boise.

For you geographically challenged folks, Reno is located in Northern Nevada about 40 miles NE of Lake Tahoe at an elevation of approx. 4500'. We average 26" of snow per winter in the valley, but the foothills can see double that.

Here are some shots from a New Years Eve 2005 (that year we got 5-8' of snow in the 2 weeks following Christmas):

Better choice for snowtires!

I love the pictures of the snow, I want to visit that area, I miss the snow I used to get while living in Salem, MA.

I also miss going to Lake Tahoe every year when I was growing up.

I am sooo cold from looking at those pictures...I need some Hot Chocolate!
Congrats on the "2nd" new ride. :)

JW,
Congrats on the Rover, reminds me of all the reasons I drove a truck or an SUV. I leased a Range Rover 10 years ago, it's a nice ride that will go anywhere. No snow down here but it came in handy when we had street flooding and all the cars were stalled out.

Absolutely Correct. It derived from the Buick 1960's V8's.

Well, after about a dozen hours of detailing I finally got around to taking some pics of my 2001 Range Rover 4.6 SE. The previous owner was a PIG! I found makeup, candy wrappers, potato chips, cookie crumbles, hair, mints/hard candy, mud, grease stains, etc. either between the seats or smeared across nearly every surface of the car. I can't tell you how many rags I used to clean the interior with each coming back just as dirty as the one before. Granted, it has 105k miles, so a bit of grime is to be expected.

Anyway, in addition to a thorough cleaning/detailing I also did the following:

-Added an aftermarket wook dash kit I got on eBay
-Replaced the peeling/cracked shift knob w/ a $20 Pep Boys unit (don't laugh, it works)
-Had a Wheelskin leather steering wheel cover installed to cover the peeling steering wheel
-Picked up some inexpensive all-season floor mats
-Got the windows tinted

Please ignore the tacky "Limited Edition" emblem. I found it under the passenger seat and put it back on the dash with some double stick tape. It obviously fell off at some point leaving a bunch of residue on the plastic trim panel that was impossible to remove. It will be replaced as soon as I can find a suitable "Range Rover" emblem to cover the same area. Unforunately it seems most places want $100 for a simple RR emblem. :(

Not too bad for $5900 + tax, right?

Looked like you completely restored it. It looks great.
