  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Its my 2nd year with Genesis 2012, love every thing about this car but the only complain i have is road noice, ok its a quite car especialy on new roads but some times it can be too noisy that annoy me, some friends told that if i change tires there will be decreament of road noice but i dont feel its Gonna be dramatic i have (hankook optimo k415) btw on. i want a solution for road noice, can any one help me. Thanks in advance

If you think the Genesis is bad drive a Sonata. It was the single reason a friend bought a Ford Fusion over the Sonata. It seems to be a Hyundai weakness.

It is probably the tires. Please provide your wheel size (17" or 18") and then we can provide some tires that will solve that problem. BTW, only the Base Trim model comes with 17" wheels. Premium and Tech Packages have 18" wheels.

Do you have the 17" or 18" wheels?

Before you had the Hankook tires, what did you have? What did you think of those?

My Genesis is tech package it has 18 inch wheels :)

My tire size is 18, i bought my Gen 2nd hand and when i get my genny it was equipped with these tires, i dont have any idea if it was equipped with another brand of tires before. May be that guy i bought genesis from changed tires some time!!! :///

It likely came with Michelin Energy Saver A/S. Those are very highly though-of tires. It is what I have on mine. I am pleased. They may be louder than some other Michelin tires I have owned in the past, but not massively so. These are super-popular among the hybrid circles, and the only complaint there is road noise. But, they may be loud compared to a traditional tire.

My personal favorite in the 18" size is the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. Those are relatively quiet and great handling all season tires.

Some of the road test specs I saw had the Sonata having a lower interior Db rating than the Fusion under idle, cruising and full throttle. Again as stated, tires are a large culprit of road noise. Tire Rack gives some noise ratings on tires which can be helpful.

+1 on tires being the culprit.

my limited experience going from 30k mi on OEM Dunlops to Conti Pro Con Eco Plus ... diff is night and day. Dunlops were very loud; Contis aren't anywhere close to loud.

Its the tires. I had a set of tires on one of my Mercedes and when they where about half worn out the car sounded like a tractor inside. (Cooper RS3-A tires) Got a new set of Goodyear tires and no noise.

Hmmm thats great so im gonna change my tires then if tires are the cause of noise, what is the quietest tire i can get. Thanks alot for replies, it was so helpful :) brw my current tires are very new :/

The Genesis is overall a very quiet car. I purchased Hyundai OEM all weather mats. The mats are a thick rubber. The mats greatly decrease road noise. A very simple solution that is not very expensive. You can store the standard floor mats.

Tires that are highly rated for "Noise Comfort" are the best way to get a quiet ride. It's not rocket science. Also avoid low profile tires (lower than stock). That means 55 aspect for 17" wheels or 50 aspect for 18" wheels. Avoid 45 or below, which means do not go larger than 18" rims on the Genesis (yes, I know R-Spec has 19" rims).

My R-spec (summer tires) and my cousins 3.8 Tech (all-weather tires) both produce minimum road noise. Quieter on asphalt than concrete but nothing I would report as a problem. You either have lousy roads or lousy tires.

Thanks so much for all replies, your advices are all helpfull :)

Depending on where you live, put on some Conti DW or DWS tires. The DW tires made a large improvement on my Corvette and the Conti pro-contact OEM tires on my R-Spec are quiet.

Edit: Changed AW to DW.

Agreed that's what I have on my RSpec and I find them very quiet.

I don't find the tire noise too bad, the car has the OEM Michelins on it, but I do find the wind noise very loud. Sometimes, driving in slush, I check to see if the door is closed properly. I'll have to get the dealer to have a look at it one day, it can't be right the way it is.
