  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I recently, 6 months ago, acquired a pristine G90 as a daily driver as my old collectable cars are not always dependable. Within days I discovered a strange appearance on the NAV screen, an overlay of that looks like clouds or water staining. As the car was still, but barely, under warranty, I returned it to the dealer and they've agreed to replace the screen under warranty. As of now, Yes 6 months later, I'm being told the replacement screen is on back order with NO estimate for when (or if?) I will get it. I see there are others with this issue but I don't see anyone has had back order problems. Should I be dealing with a Genesis factory rep instead? How can I be sure that I'm not just getting a runaround from my dealer?

The problem is delamination, and it is a design or manufacturing defect. It is actually good news that there is a long delay in getting the replacement part. It probably means that instead of getting another one of the same screen that will have the same failure sooner or later, you will possibly be getting a newer design or one made by a newer manufacturing process. Meanwhile, the old screen is still usable.

Your response is encouraging, though I've noted another post on here where another post states waited 2 years and still nothing. Then found one on the internet and self installed. If only I had the skill to make all of that happen. Do you suppose a factory rep could help?

My service advisor "encouraged" me to tell him the clouds made it difficult for me to see the navigation map, and tell him it was not safe, he added notes to my warranty claim and after waiting for several months at that point, the screen showed up the next week after our "encouraged conversation"

I've been waiting 8 months for a replacement screen backorder.
Pretty frustrating as the condition is getting worse and in some lighting conditions it does affect safety by making the nav guidance difficult or impossible to interpret.

My advice is to get a glass screen protector once you have it replaced. There are some good ones out there on Amazon. And also have a sunscreen protector for the front window to keep the heat off of the screen in the summer month. I haven't had any problem and it makes the screen brighter and clearer with this application

Got a phone call from GMA yesterday that they have a fix for the screen issue. They will put in a temporary screen and send the OEM one to be fixed. Should take 6-8 weeks. Waiting on appointment confirmation

I waited for a year and gave up. I purchased a screen off ebay from China and installed myself. Looks perfect now.

I'm pleased to report that Genesis finally made good on three warranty issues that were reported and dealer verified before the warranty expired. I am not pleased to report that it took them over two years to do so, but after three warranty service reps and a change in ownership at the dealership, Genesis finally stepped up replaced the radio head unit, nav screen, and delaminated leather dash. I can't recall how many hours, phone calls and emails it took, but it was way more than a few.
Had they not made good on the repairs, which were $14K in parts alone, I would have sold the car as is and abandoned the brand. For now I continue to enjoy this excellent vehicle and hope they dial in the service, supply chain and warranty side of their business.

Head unit replacement is not necessary for a screen delam.

Radio head unit was replaced for a separate unrelated failure of the volume control knob.
