  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

WOW, last nigh had a bit of a scare when I got in the car and the map was quite dark. As I just had the 13.5 update installed, Immediately thought that it was crashing. But, after some fiddling around, figured out what the problem was. The new update put the map into a "night illumination" mode. To make the map more visible, at least to my eyes, I had to go to the Set Up button>Display and adjust the Night illumination slider (first had to unselect Auto) to my liking. I found +4 to be satisfactory. BTW, while there, you can also adjust the illumination for the daytime.

That feature has always been there - it's not new in v13.5. Your update to the maps must have reset your setting...I've always had mine maintained but updating is a brutal process to software.

Me personally, I always leave it in night mode and then crank the brightness. I think the day mode is garish and too cartoony for the car interior.

When you say brutal process, brutal in what way? I am awaiting my new sd card from mapnsoft. I have the original 2015 software. Jog dial type. Should I expect problems or bugs?

Just asking due to my ignorance when it comes to computers and things related to them.

The hardest part is opening the cover over the card. Push the SD card to eject it, put the new one in and start the car. I've done four on a couple of different cars, no problem. Takes a good half hour.

Well that does sound easy! Thank you! Like I had said the other day, a guy can really learn a lot about his car through this forum!!!

Brutal to software not to the user. Sorry for causing concern.

I was just waxing philosophically on the computer science-y idea of updating firmware and adding features in an unassisted setting.

No worries! This the nicest car I have ever owned and I suppose that I just dont want to damage anything. I run older vehicles and take good care of them so they do last me . Just want to be somewhat educated before taking on a task that is very new to me. I really like this car and plan to keep it for long time to come . Thanks for all the good info guys . I really do appreciate it!
