  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Perhaps I've just overlooked this feature but is there no way to put in a personal PIN number that protects your home address? My Honda Pilot has this. It's a comforting feature knowing that if the car is stolen that thieves cannot just punch up your home address too.

Would the thief accessing your nav system be before or after they had already emptied the contents of your glove box and found your address on your registration and insurance cards?

Every so often they put this tip in the news. The simplest thing to do is not to put your home address in your Nav. Put in an address some distance away. There is no reason why your Nav system needs to know your personal address, is there? I guess everybody already knows this, but it may be worth repeating here for some. I also have a special hiding place for my registration and insurance cards in the car. My license is always in my pocket.

I keep nothing in the car that has my address on it - try again.

I'm looking for a yes or no and if yes, how/where the feature is. I don't need "alternative" answers.

No, a reading of the manual reveals no pin code capability, to my recollection. Sorry to try to assist.

Snarky, Real Snarky..:grouphug:

I'm so tired of asking a simple question and getting everything BUT the answer. Instead I get treated like an idiot and then given suggestions that either don't apply or are not relevant to the question asked. I try to be helpful in these forums and not belittle people - and then, when I tell them to stop treating me this way and just answer the question, I'm the jerk. Ok thanks got it.

Maybe you need a Councilor and not a helpful Forum.......

As an aside, albeit a red herring aside, there seems to be too much testosterone, or something, going on in here. But I digress.

Back to my point: it never occurred to me that keeping my home address in the car was in any way, shape, or form a dangerous practice, whether digitally in the navi menu or a hard copy in the glove box. Other than the remote risk that a serial killer will randomly see your address and come looking for you, what is the real risk? I must be naive but I don't understand why this could be a problem. (I am asking in all seriousness). Is this am identity theft caution, or something else.

Just looking to learn.

Stealing car - having address - using Homelink and burglarizing house - and so on. Fresh out of alternative answers.

I would have thought that if your car is stolen the thief/thieves would get as far away from the initial scene as possible.. If they are that interested in YOU they would have already done their homework & would subsequently know where you live and your daily/weekly/hourly habits..
If you are visiting out of State or 100's miles from home I doubt they will foot the fuel bill to drive to your home! - Do you have ADT or the Like? I have a 24 hour surveillance system that sends me emails as and when the motion sensors are activated.. As for the 3.8 Genesis it's not on the list as Desirable!
the "R" certainly is..

As a long time Neighborhood Watch guy (no gun), I can assure folks here that many people with garage door openers do not bother to lock the garage entry door to their houses. Thus, if somebody steals your car because you left it running outside a 7-11 (happens daily) you could be in deep doo doo.

What he said. Having LEO's as friends I can confirm that the "find address in the car to pick a target" isn't your worry, it's the access that both the address and homelink or garage door opener provides. That being said, with or without the garage access point, even a fake alarm sign or camera is a good deterrent. Beyond the alarm system, I also rely on 185 lbs. of hors...........I mean dog. If that fails, the suspect will likely succumb to lead poisoning.

In any event, from what I'm told, the risk is there, but tends to be overblown for most areas.

As a guy (with a gun) I agree, too many people are thoughtless when it comes to their or others security... But we digress..
All car radio/Nav units should have a Personal Pin Number..
Fill your vehicle just before your trip, not the prior evening,
thieves ❤ a full tank.
If you leave your car running whilst in a 7/11 or the like, all you will have when you leave is the receipt..car WILL Be Gone..
Keep your keys about You, not laying in the vehicle..Be Safe, Be Aware...
:)
Just rename your home address --- i.e. Uncle Joe..

with all due respect, and not to go down a rathole ...

this is another unnecessary nanny (that i would disable straightaway give the opportunity). the car already requires a fob to do much of anything.

100% security = 0% productivity (or in this case, usability)

Just take the DIS manual out of the car and they won't be able to find the address ;)

What happens when Officer Friendly asks for your documentation?

Do you carry these on your person and, if so, what happens when someone else drives your car?
