  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

OK! I just purchased a fully loaded Genisis. So far (about 250 miles) no real issues. However, I traded a Lexus LS 430 for the Genisis and found the Navigation system a little unwieldy. First, it does not show the city of Barstow, CA and there is no way to set a destination to a Barstow address. My other car, a Lexus RX 350's navigation has no problem finding Barstow. So I wonder what other surprises I'll find in entering a destination. I'm hoping I'll get used to the funky operation of the navigation system in time. That's my only complaint so far with the car. Great quality and finish inside and out. The ride is a liitle rough, but remember I came from a Lexus. Have any other owners had problems with the navigation system?

The Navi is my least favorite option on the Genesis. Other than the navigation this car continues to delight me everytime I drive it. I too hope I just need to become more familiar with shortcuts. I have read a few post that recommend using voice commands.

I live in Athens GA and just went out to my car and used the voice commands to go to Maple Drive in Barstow, CA. Had no problem and the city and all roads appear to be in my nav system. Have you studied the Nav manual. I have the the 4.6 with DIS tech so you may not have the same system I do.

You only get Barstow with the V8.

It's possible that the GPS maps are set to the wrong region. I had the head unit replaced, and when I got it back, it was set to another state and had a similar problem with trying to map to a local place.

I think you may mean only with tech pkg DIS and not with touch screen. The V6 can be optioned with the tech/DIS pkg.

I meant what I wrote, you missed the joke.

Then there was the guy with an Equus who's NAV didn't have Alabama. We told him it was a feature not a bug. Don't know if he got the joke.

;)

Set forth below is how the 2012 tech/DIS nav works, but I'm guessing all the tech models are the same for all years.

The system only searches for cities/streets in your "home" or "default" state. You can reset it 2 ways--both ways have the same effect.

In voice nav, start the process with either of the commands "enter state" or "enter address." Both commands have the same effect, and both require you to say the name of the state first. If you say "Oregon" when prompted to enter a state, then every subsequest search will use Oregon as the default state when you begin you voice nav search with "enter city". The next time you use the "enter address" or "enter state" command, you will reset the default state to a new one.

Manually, you press the "navi menu" button, select "destination" then select "address", and your default state will be shown in the upper left hand corner of the display. While in that screen, pull the joystick to 6 o'clock to reset your default state.

If, when you last used the voice command "enter state," you entered Oregon as the state, then "Oregon" will be shown as the default in the upper left hand corner of the display until you reset it again, either manually or with the voice method. Similarly, if you change the state to Arizona using the manual method, then Arizona is your default state, and the next time you use voice nav with the command "enter city", the system will only search for cities in Arizona.
